varnishes
I got a can of marine varnish. I have used it on 2 boards so far. Both still feel "soft" to me. I can put a fingernail dent in them very easy. I also can feel and hear that tacky sound when I move them off of something they have been leaning on for awhile. I have 4 coats on them and they h...

Re: cracking plywood with the grain
I just watched board 3 crack in front of my eyes as I applied the wood stain. What other marine ply is available besides Dug Fir?

Re: cracking plywood with the grain
Maybe Krusher. been kinda hot then cold n dry. then dewy ...but it seems both times were when I painted and or stained. It wont ruin the board . I will seal it just fine. Its just odd to me.

cracking plywood with the grain
Has any of you had the top layer of ply crack with the grain after applying paint or stain? I have on the last two and I swear I did not see any cracks before. I spend time sanding the deck, bottom, edges etc and I am always looking for spots to clean up. I think something like that would not get by...

Re: Saterday project
The board posted on the very 1st page was my 1st board that did what I wanted it to do. I used cheap birch and as a result its life was not long. I would ride it and while it was drying I would use another board. I used it several times in the last month and had it in the stack of boards drying, wai...

Re: Cork deck
The dark stained board is for my Brother-in-law. That is the one I was thinking of doing cork. I did place the black pad on it to see what it would look like before I skinned the Indigo board and I think it looked just fine. http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z477/ClanB2011/WP_000169.jpg The tail i...

Yea, I believe sticking it to a board with layers on varnish on the surface would be ok too. Ill give that one a try.

Re: Cork deck
is there any particular type of cork I should get? Mayan Lumbar in Oxnard can get it and its 1/4" thick and 4' wide, sold by the foot. Im guessin' 18"x4' should get 2 boards skinned. I dont know if its light or dark or course or smooth.

Re: Xylem Malama Kai paipo
Spud, did you grab that at Ventura Surf Shop? I called them and they said it pulled paint off a door when they tried to remove it.
