Re: Renting Boards
Meeting up with y'all in September sounds really fresh. Let me know what dates you pick out. Mr. Mike--thanks for the mat suggestion. That does sound like a solution. Are they easy or difficult to learn? Both. :D Mat riding has been called the fly fishing of surfing. Easy to pick up the basics, a l...

Re: Credit where credit is due (rant).
Totally agree with Kage and know exactly who 'glider's referring too. My bacon's fried too! Like many others my age, I had a couple shop class plywood paipo/skimboards when I first started surfing back in the 60's but I never realized their potential at the time, victims of peer pressure and ...

Re: Something different or not?
Here a good table that gives the properties (including density) of various plastic materials http://www.machinist-materials.com/comparison_table_for_plastics.htm The "KingStarboard" stuff seems like it would be fun to experiment with. I'm going to ask some friends in the boat biz if I can...

Re: Something different
Most prone riding people probably should not rely on most surf board shapers to make their paipos. Not because they are bad shapers nor because they are prejudiced or bad people. They simply are not tuned to how a prone-ridden board differs from a stand-up board without having ridden one. As it is ...

Re: Something different
Boys and girls, this is where semantics matter. :ugeek: See, if a guy wants a paipo , he gets the appropriate lumber or plywood, makes one and goes surfing. 8-) But if a guy wants a bellyboard, he shell's out 600-1000 :o (OZ) dollars after chasing around looking for somebody willing to shape it. Now...

Rumor is, Paipo Jim rides five or six waves like that every day before breakfast, surfing an old cedar shingle.
