Re: fins forward
"Hip" at least to my mind is where the outline "line" breaks more sharply in direction as headed towards the tail.Per the picture there really isn't a hip I would say. If someone held a gun to my head and said, "Point to the hip or die and if you say there isn't one that wil...

Re: Endeavour stand up board a usable paipo?
Well looks like i'm going to be helping the endeavour guys work on a paipo based around the spud :D Cant wait to see what we can cook up  For those with sticker shock on the spud the £600 version is the polished resin tint, the sprayed matte version is a affordable £449! 8-) Fun! Do you get ...

Re: fins forward
when i was using jeff mccallum to shape my boards we used to hot glue the fins in place so they could be popped off and moved until we found the right placement. I I have mostly hot glued them in place to hold while applying glass lay-up for permanent placement;would not have thought that hot glue ...

Re: fins forward
In addition to outline curve, I would think fin placement also would vary w/ riding style; if you use more hands/arms to turn vs more hip pressure fins might go better a bit further forward of back.

Also, adding to Krusher's Q above, experience in functionality of concave as in that board vs one that running front to back goes wide to narrower to wider, like in the Bonzers or at least the old ones; no idea what they are doing now with them.

Re: Krusher's 360 Youtube links
YEAH! That's the ticket...late night shopping mall parking lots, dead end cul-de-sac streets, and esp the windy road up into the hills behind town, though mine was totally stock, the family car. Whoo-hoo!!! Damn lucky that stupid split axle or whatever it was they used to use didn't fail on the road...

Re: Krusher's 360 Youtube links
the same as drifting cars that become popular recently. HAH! I was full 4 wheel drifting in my parents VW bug while in high school in mid-60's. Well, I was until the rear axle broke and I did a full 720 el rollo popping out both front and rear windshields and totaling the car. Oops, grounded. Come ...

Re: My new SDF surfboard Paipo
Flex may make it work better but I suspect it may do that due to creating variable rocker. But the "not work" bit more like PR for his boards.

Re: Theory check
That's it. You can really see the V in the Tuna in those shots as in the video you posted on the other thread. So it really boils down to the difference in the rails, bb/vacuum track fat and beveled vs alaia knife skinny and square

Re: My new SDF surfboard Paipo
Ah, jus did see that there was V on the Tuna in the tail end photo in your interview. Had not watched that video and you can clearly see the V when he is holding up the board and talking about it. Some very interesting stuff around 7:30 or so about necessity of having rounded transition from concave...

Theory check
I have my theory but if anyone knows... 2 boards with identical rocket, plan shape, width: 1) Alaia shaped paipo w/ essentially tri-plane bottom (slightly rounded outer planes) and skinny square rails w/ sharp edges 2) Tuna type paipo w/ flat all the way across and similar concave in the middle with...

Re: New EPS Board
For small repairs, if you are not hooked on aesthetics, the epoxy putty works great. Comes as a sort of bi-layer tootsie roll in a tube and you just pinch off what you need and seal up the rest then knead it for a minute or so until color totally even and pack it in the hole. When mostly cured but n...

Re: My new SDF surfboard Paipo
Thanks K. Yeah, on the site looks like all Ben does is customs. The grim truth ;) is that I will almost certainly be waiting until next year!!! to move on any of this. I am currently deep into a meditation project and pretty committed to grind until next spring. But then...we will see. This mental c...

Re: My new SDF surfboard Paipo
Just found this tidbit on Ben Severson Body Boards site. I am pretty out of the loop but have never seen bb with this. http://www.benseverson.com/index.php/design-effects I DEVELOPED THE ROUNDED RAIL THAT FADES TO 50/50 AND THE ROUNDED SQUARE TAIL. THERE HAVE BEEN ALLOT OF OTHER DESIGNS BUT THEY HAV...

Thanks for all the follow-up info. That balsa site, same country but about 12-15 hours away by bus. If I got serious about surfing here, that is who I would go to though unless I went to Ace from the US who has been visiting for years and currently staying in Playas down the coast from Montañita. Ha...

Re: My new SDF surfboard Paipo
A bit hard to tell from the photos, and you may have said and I missed it, but front part of board, did you keep the flat angled, bodyboard style rail, just w/ belly instead of flat bottom, or did you actually soften out and then blend the rail into an actual round, Simmons style rail up front?

Re: T-Belly Generation 2
The bodyboard I used as a template for my paipo was a 41.75" but for cosmetic reasons more than anything (did not want my paipo to look like a fiberglass bodyboard) carried the rail curve forward to a point. making it measure 44", so just point out the board length in simple measurements ...
