Re: yucca fins
I'd love to give them a test drive some time but don't know where to begin with all the different stiff to flex gradients combined with "what size" will really fit, or will they fit? I used Vipers for quite a while after Churchill had discontinued their rubber softer blade fins and then tr...

Re: Quad Concave Body Board Study
My idea of achieving wave catching competitions with longboards... is to go with more of an "S" deck, something one sees in some of Larry Goddard's boards, e.g., this "S" deck: DSC02473[1].jpg But maybe with only a little nose rocker and some added tail flip/rocker and fuller cen...

Re: Quad Concave Body Board Study
When speaking of wide vs. narrow noses the overall width of the board is relevant as well. The Tomo is something like 18 inches as the wide spot, rather narrow. Another thing about that Tomo is the nose concave to actually increase air underneath the nose. Now increased air under the nose in strong ...
Re: Dreamtime
Those are two very good YouTube movies. Really enjoying some YouTube stuff on the TV these days since the BluRay provides a great interface. Enjoy the wetsuit!

Re: Xylem Paipos are back
There are many people riding the Jeff Chamberlain paipo boards -- sometimes called "SUP-styled paipos" -- and although Jeff's boards are thick much of the design philosophy has to do with planning surface. His boards are also longer so although I have not computed the aspect ratio, he succ...

Re: Xylem Paipos are back
The Lord Board references are to Lord, Lindsay. 1963. Naval architecture of planing hulls. Cambridge, Md: Cornell Maritime Press. See for more information: https://mypaipoboards.org/pubs/BookSummaries.shtml#Lord_Lindsay As you can see in Josh's length x width measurements his new board has a spot on...

Re: Xylem Paipos are back
Follow-up with Josh Klein -- The SRFDORB is 60”x 28” x1-1/4”. He commented, "That width helps it get on plane and glide through flat sections. Certainly the widest board I’ve ever made or ridden!"

Re: Xylem Paipos are back
Josh didn't mention dimensions for the SRFDORD (Lord Board) but they seem to approach Jeff Chamberlain length and width specs albeit with a different thickness and plan shape. Also notice the hand slot for carrying the board like you see on SUPs. Good to see Josh up and running again.

Re: british invasion
From what I have read you might want to take I-90 rather than I-80. I have traveled good distances on both. Both have elevation, but I-80 is known for its high winds on the Wyoming segment. Driving home from the paipo gathering a year ago, my wife and I were being chased by a huge storm--we probably...

Re: british invasion
Hey Paul, I assume you were surfing Indian River Inlet, the big bridge over the inlet. Good to hear the wave is working for you. A paipo buddy might be going down to Hatteras in late-Sept or sometime during October. He might get a hotel room or a small cottage. Guess you will be traveling down the E...

Thomas so sorry about the above news The frustration extends out to us clients as well It takes years to find a good shaper and then we get this kind of disappointing news and the uncertainty that the future might bring <snip> Agree wholeheartedly. It is great to have such a knowledgeable and skill...

Re: british invasion
Pez, yeah, we are a couple to a few hours from the coast from our triangle. At the turn of the century we had an active area surf club that was actively ride-sharing 7 days a week, watching for swell, and doing pretty well at it. A lot of us could rearrange our schedules to hit the swell during the ...

Re: Wet suit cool water
I am not familiar with the Adrenaline brand. The main thing is selecting a wetsuit that fits and provides freedom of movement. For reason, Rip Curls just don't fit my upper body, O'Neil does, so I go from there. Sometimes moving up a grade within a brand name can make a huge difference in warmth. My...

Lacanau Plage, fun place. My son and spent 4-5 days there back in 2000. A different worldly experience that is for sure. Most of the time we went surfing the next village north, Carcans Plage, and one day a drive-around up to Plage Gurp. Le Gurp Plage was an interesting experience as it is a naturis...

Re: fish the movie
Hydrodynamica did end up with a great museum showing and accompanying book. Seriously? Fat lot of good that did for the surfing world. Never heard a word about any of it. For all the hipster hype they put out... Ah well. Piss on it. Did anybody other than me see that fantastic documentary Greg Sche...
