Re: Board outline, with and without fins

Krusher wrote: "I have also surfed Cstreet on my travels an would put that wave in the middle ground of waves for shape and power." Here we go again with a "generalization". Since C St. is 30 minutes from my door to shore I look at it daily on the web cam....and some days it is w...

Re: Board outline, with and without fins

Nomas and I had a sterling outing at C St. in Ventura this morning and discussed this very question. I am inclined to agree with Nomas that if you are going to generalize 12% seems about right....but to Krusher and Rod's observations there are a lot of variables involved here given the many shapes a...

GoPro Hero4 Silver

My Son got me one of these for my Bday. Color me non-techie to the max. Question 1: It seems to me that getting a head strap rig (with a chin strap for stability and secure fit) would be a good way to go. Hands free. Point and shoot where I am looking. Anybody have any suggestions or experience with...

Re: Mega Platter

I had asked Skiff sometime back about the Mega Platter and he was good enough to provide me the following info on his shaper. "The guy is Kirk McGinty of L-41 Surfboards.  Here’s his FB page- https://www.facebook.com/L41surf" I decided not to follow up....background as follows: 1. Skiff po...

For the paipo rider on the fast track you might also add this to your fashion ensemble.

Re: bodyboard shape evolution

Interesting trip down memory lane Krusher. I was 25 when the first Morey came out....and had forgotten that it was wider at the bottom of the board. Today my go to board is a TPG2 which is also wider at the bottom of the board. I will leave it to Nomas to discuss his thinking on this design. To quot...

Ha....my converter tells me that is 46 degrees F. I would be putting on a second hood and set of gloves. Nice photos. Looks like fun.

Re: The Truck

Same Krusher. I try to concentrate on kick initiating in the hips. I have actually timed it in a swimming pool and determined it generates more speed with fewer strokes than knee initiated kicks.

Re: The Truck

Interesting Nomas....my experience on my 43inch TBG2 is contrary to your description. Our positions on the board sound similar....but when I arm paddle alone it is more of a wallow than a plane and way slower than when I just kick. Better work on my arm strength.

Re: The Truck

I used to think arm paddling and kicking had to be more effective than just kicking. How could two appendages working possibly be equivalent to four appendages scratching for the horizon. After a bit of experimentation I came to the conclusion I was wrong. I find that if I keep my arms and hands on ...

Re: bellyboard for BIG guy

Different strokes for different folks. TBG2 is now my go to board. 43 inches long....and I love the "belly". But I am only 5'8"+ and 167 lbs+. I see Thomas is building a 50 inch board for Gorilla. My 50 inch Austin has not been out of the garage since I got the TBG2 six months ago. I ...

Re: Technique question -hips and tails

I will give it a shot. 1. On my 43 inch TBG2....right on. Only addition is that typically just prior to picking up the wave I release one arm to add some paddle power. If going right release and use left arm to paddle....going left the reverse. Then regrab the board on drop with that paddle arm at a...

Re: Board bags for air travel

Well....the photo in the driveway with my boards shows the bag fully unzipped/ opened with interior up. There are no walls around the edges like a suitcase if that is what you were expecting? The padding is throughout so when the boards (in their respective day bags) are in the case it zips into a s...

I will definitely be calling out Russell to kneeboarders until I make a positive ID. I have met a Russell from Ojai in the line up but I have only known him to stand up surf. Has a British accent. Hmmm? Rod....I emailed a couple of photos to you an hour ago....got the whoosh sound.....but I don't se...

Re: Board bags for air travel

Good point about soft gear....my day bags are also padded so already pretty snug fit. I wear a wet suit year round here in CAL so my mission is to travel to places that do not require same. Going to "Cardon" North of Mazatlan. Only eight rooms but most of us frugal guys double up so can be...

Re: Board bags for air travel

Quote from Midnight at $202 and Airwave $160. I talked to both vendors and got a better bedside manner from Mark at Airwave. That plus the price differential and Airwave it was. Received the bag. Well padded all the way around.....coffin style......handle plus detachable shoulder strap. Separation p...

Re: bellyboard for BIG guy

I am in CAL and Austin shipped to me from VA no problem. My go to board now is Thomas Patrick TBG2. Either of these guys are good to work with. My first thought was Austin because he is also a big guy.
