Re: Which paipo for hollow waves ?

Stewart seems more well-known today for bodysurfing, although he still is involved with producing good bodyboards. But there's a guy who pretty well remains under radar. J.T. Nickelson...might have been the guy I alluded to in an earlier post about paipo style riding. No way to lock that down as bod...

Re: Which paipo for hollow waves ?

Nice catch there Rod. It should be noted that Damron was riding very "paipo style" with one hand up front and another way back down the rail and her torso a bit off center, as if learned on HPD style paipo. There was another guy from that era..can't think of his name now, started with two ...

Re: Swim Fins with Booties

For the last umpteen years I've used fly fishing wader materials...a fairly cheap pair of neoprene gaiters to cut for fin heel strap mediation and wetsuit repairs if necessary...something that might be more comfortable and durable than leather. Never thought about replacement felt soles for wader bo...

Re: Swim Fins with Booties

Eeeek! Cressi ("Rondine"?) full-foot dive fins! Remember when Surfer used to run ads for some kind of fin saver strap for those things? Good dive fins though. Although the image of Rod in his girlfriend's old nylons may warp my mind forever... Once the Churchill patent expired it seemed li...

Re: Swim Fins with Booties

There's never going to be a consensus about fins until everybody has the same manufactured feet...and I hope that never happens. We tend to makes things more complicated than they need to be sometimes, at least I can. Something to do with being around a long time, maybe. Play with ideas. Remember a ...

Nice footage! That wave at those sizes with no crowd... looked perfect for a higher volume mega platter type board. I could get lost in that scenario for a good long while...

Re: Swim Fins with Booties

When I was still doing a lot of rock dancing around Ventura, primarily standup surfing, I got a pair of O'Neill hard soled zippered booties where the soles weren't so hard they would damage the deck of a board. I'd had a chance - this was all many years ago now- to test out a bunch of different boot...

Curren keeps it interesting

I was piddling around before sunrise today, came across some fresh coverage of Tom Curren and his Current interests...all pretty fantastic IMO...anyway some interesting stills and good video with prone craft relevance. http://stabmag.com/brad-domke-gave-tom-curren-a-skimboard/#VODe6I4XSlU0A0BL.97 ht...

wish I stuck around could have got Rincon all to myself
I don't think you would have had Rincon all to yourself even if IT was on fire... ;)

Although come to think of it Rod and I got it to ourselves one rainy Saturday morning a few years ago...of near flatness...

Re: Very latest wing board

It seems to go back to the ideas about getting your hips up out of the water, either through float or planing. I'd expect that would still hold true for a wing board too, jeez, maybe more so since you'd have more weight out of the water. Probably the thing to do would be work back and forth in some ...

Re: Very latest wing board

I've played with tiny mini-paipos a few times through the last 10-15 years, generally looking for something to travel with unobtrusively and conveniently...stashable, packable boards. I've made a couple of wood and in 2014 got a mini bodyboard. They've all been rideable, and meet my basic criteria -...

Re: TBG5 Step Up

I played around with a couple of boards to get a feel for length issues. 66" Doyle tri-fin was one, and I think the other was a 68" kneeboard. Both were bears to paddle for me and horrible to use with swim fins. Both were fine to ride though (although not technically "good" for b...

Re: Lameroo - the origins of the term??

Sadly, Roger passed away a number of years ago while kayak fishing at Bolsa Chica; something happened and he just slipped over the side, gone in an instant. Those were fun times...simple questions to him might be returned with photos of projects he'd never mentioned, things he did for fun or on a wh...

And when you consider the average generic "surfer" lasts maybe 3-5 years of dabbling, 7 if serious...

Ebay photo snags...oh, how many of us have done that? I sent Bob a cd with a bunch a few years ago. Board porn! Can't get enough! Re: Lameroo - the origins of the term??

Yeah, the old vagabondsurf.com site is still sitting out there. The goal is to take it down by the end of the year. I've had that goal for a long time though.

I call "Life Issues" on the subject.

I have technology fatigue, to be honest. Or maybe Jakeleg.
