Re: French paipo
You might consider the HPD (Hawaiian Paipo Design) board. It's wide, no skeg and basically no buoyancy. I got one from the second hand market a few years ago. Super easy to catch waves with, super easy duck dives indeed, but way too wide, I could t turn it the way I wanted to. Maybe the guitar pick...

French paipo
Hi there, I am discussing with a local shaper about a paipo board I'd like him to shape for me. He doesn't know anything about paipo boards, so when I said that I wanted a thin board with (idealy) a low buoyancy, he was kind of suprised :D Although he is happy to make something different than regula...

Re: fin placement on bodyboard?!
The only reason I would put fins on a bodyboard would be to use it as a kneeboard. For a classic prone use, you may just use a smaller finless bodyboard, or a paipo. Bodyboards rails are thick and sometimes hard to engage, this is where paipo boards shine, no turning issue.

Do you ship ?krusher74 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 26, 2020 5:40 am That's about the same dimensions as my boards. I ride 21.5 wide which is a very standard width for a 42" bodyboard for the last 30 years. Should work finless too.
I wish i could sell my used boards for 300E, nobody seems interested if I advertize them at half that

Does it sound like a good paipo ?
Hi there, long time no see. It's been not such a great year so far, I haven't surfed a lot. Plus I got "covided" a month ago, it was not that bad but I still feel that I kinda have a tiny bit less breath than I used to, will see in the water if it is just a feeling or not. Anyway, I want t...

I watched the first episode with Tom Wegener.
The editing is great, but I m a bit disapointed by the rides, I know he is a good rider and is able to ride good waves so I don't get why they show him going straight forward in the foam.

Re: Wet suit cool water
I wear a 5/3 backzip during the winter (water temp 12°c), with a hood, gloves and socks, it is ok.
I also use these to prevent water entries: It makes a difference !

Re: Travel Board
A fun approch would be to imagine a two parts board, where both parts would be semi independants.
Like 2 parts connected by two hinges, without any lock system, so both parts could still move.
Of course there would be a global lack of rigidity, but not more than a surfmat when you think about it.

Re: The Wall Paipo?
What a great ride, from outside, very clean down the line, I think the best part is the end of the ride when the wave gets hollower and he goes for the superman stance ! I had a guitar pick shaped HPD paipo a few years ago, but I could never really figure out how to ride it the right way like that. ...

Re: Travel Board
A foldable board, wouldn't it be great ?
I reminds me this episode of "curb your enthusiasm" where Larry David claims the invention of 2 parts skis that one could screw together
If you don't have room for a board I would recommend to use a surfmat or a mini paipo.

That's exactly what is happening to me right now, shoulder tendonitis
And it's a shame, since this little board offered me plenty of good sessions.
I'll have to go back to my classic bellyboard to give my shoulders a break !

Re: "swimming board" elva fin swim
I tried the board in small waves, of course it worked terrible  It paddles great (cause that's what it's been designed for),very buoyant, very stable. But to my surprise, catching waves with it was quite difficult. Once on the wave, there is no rail to engage except a little part on the back (t...

Re: "swimming board" elva fin swim
That's a very complicated expensive design to not even have a thought for waves. I always wonder how many of these things ever sell. As far as surfing, i'st forcing you to be very far back with that much volume in front of your I think will make it very hard to surf. I could get a bodyboard to padd...
