Re: New H fin board

I think you don't need that angled surface to get on the plane.
I'd buy them all if I had the chance !

Go to Vimeo and search for SURFFOILS, there's a handful of videos there.
I would say my foils are very stable and easy to ride but they lack the cool design that Chris has. I've put similar foils on a Laser sailboat.

Re: Fins of a New Generation.

New 6 mm fins, easy to fit into the FCS plugs and they only need leading and trailing edge foil.

Re: New H fin board

Hi Chris, I think the pitch sensitivity is due to the chord length, with a wide wing with short chord it's very pitch sensitive because you're relying on Bernoullian forces for lif like a plane wing, but if you use a short wing with a long chord it's very stable in pitch and hard to stall, it uses t...

Re: Fins of a New Generation.

Hi Krusher, I did a lot of easy experiments with flat 3mm aluminium and I would say that performs about Eighty per cent of the function of a fin. For fins under three inches high the Three mm Al is fine. And with no foil every fin is an exact copy and at three mm the leading edge is easily rounded. ...

And a few more versions. Subtle variations in glass or carbon or 3-D printed.

Fins of a New Generation.

Fins interrupt the flow under the craft to create drive and drag. You can live without them but they bring their own joy too. There are many fin designs but they all fall within certain parameters that suit surfing so any new design has to be aware that going 'too far' will make it unworkable or jus...

Re: New H fin board

CRISPI, great board !! I think the vibrating noise could be twang from the off side wingtip during a fast turn, youve loaded up the forces and then unloaded. The aquatic version of SCH-wing !! (indeed) And the oscillating is caused by the foil sitting up /skimming on the surface and then balancing b...

Chris, I understand what you're saying. I'm keen to see what you're planning with the paddles ? What sort of "boats" or are you talking about SUPs ...? :D :D :D

Re: My lates Wing board

Hi Chris, at the moment I'm locked in a fin discussion elsewhere where people don't know the best fin foil for speed !

That's great that you are stoked with the SR72, are you thinking of doing another version?

Re: My new finless board

Just an experiment to see how a radical change in thickness/ bouyancy would affect performance. 100mm thick in the middle dropping to 10 mm around the perimeter. Paddled well, caught waves well but when you tilted the thin rail into the wave it sank too quickly, bogged. The pressure gradient is a li...

Re: My lates Wing board

Have you thought about using ply for the foils ? I put 2 layers of 6 oz with epoxy on each side and they're bulletproof. The thinner shape moves thru the water easier too, less volume to push when you paddle. Cheap as too.

Re: My new finless board

There's no need to be rude to me, you made a sweeping statement about all Surfcraft and I responded with a clear and sensible explanation from various aspects. You tell me to stop talking about Vacuum Rails and then you immediately post a pic of....Chined Vacuum Rails. Bizarre ! These are a few of t...

Re: My new finless board

"Yet no other maker of surfcraft, powerboats or yachts uses this seemingly simple but highly efficient rail design." surffoils, i beg to differ a little, almost all modern surfcraft use a varying form of this rail configuration, at least on the tail. I can't see any connection between an ...

Re: My lates Wing board

Chris, some of the pro vac guys use a cutoff switch that senses the vacuum and switches the pump on and off to save energy. It's something I've not followed up on. The bags give an airtight seal with a few wraps of tape around the top , just be careful of any sharps as the vacuum suffers greatly eve...

Re: My new finless board

I'm with nomastomas on this one and I'll give you my reasons why... 1. Y is a smart guy, he was no construction or marketing noob at the time so he knew how to play the game. Initially he was selling kits and if you're working with foam it comes in flat sheets. And flat is easy. And angled flat is j...

Re: My lates Wing board

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg So looking from the bottom pic on up, the White tube is perforated and sits inside the bag with the blank / glass. It sucks the air out of the bag from all around the blank and then into the filter. The filter is important to place next so that any resin drops , mist, ...
