Re: Something different or not?
Here a good table that gives the properties (including density) of various plastic materials http://www.machinist-materials.com/comparison_table_for_plastics.htm The "KingStarboard" stuff seems like it would be fun to experiment with. I'm going to ask some friends in the boat biz if I can...

Re: Something different
Most prone riding people probably should not rely on most surf board shapers to make their paipos. Not because they are bad shapers nor because they are prejudiced or bad people. They simply are not tuned to how a prone-ridden board differs from a stand-up board without having ridden one. As it is ...

Re: Something different
Boys and girls, this is where semantics matter. :ugeek: See, if a guy wants a paipo , he gets the appropriate lumber or plywood, makes one and goes surfing. 8-) But if a guy wants a bellyboard, he shell's out 600-1000 :o (OZ) dollars after chasing around looking for somebody willing to shape it. Now...

I've made a couple but they are just simple drawstring bags.

Rumor is, Paipo Jim rides five or six waves like that every day before breakfast, surfing an old cedar shingle.

I've been using full size UDT's for several years. Heaps of power and plenty of rubber for modifications if needed.

I've handled all the boards in SHF collection and there's none like this one; but it sure looks like Osserman had seen one.

Re: A difference between designing a paipo and other boards
Feb/March issue of Ocean ( the SD county fishwrap) had a nice intervew with GG. He'd gotten to the point where he was actually wearing out and/or breaking his fiberglass spoons and having to rebuild them every few months. He eventually went to Epoxy and Carbon Fiber. Result being a major reduction i...

Re: Pirate Fish Alaia Remo II
Well, I was really enjoying the way it rode and of course I knew it was only a matter of time until it happened but I was hoping it would be later rather then sooner... IMGP3954.JPG It split more or less along a grain line and I should be able to glue it back together without too much trouble. I may...

Re: a good day for ear plugs
I saw a Hammerhead in Manhattan Beach early 70's that was big enough to bite a person in half.
A guy caught it off the end of the pier and they hauled it up with the boat winch.
He left it on the pier and they ended up hauling it to the dump.

The breakdown by state is; Washington 1, Oregon 20, and California 142. There have been 11 fatal shark attacks reported from California over the past 60 years. The Wh...

Technically?
Check out Surfline. Notice where they draw the lines.
Sharks are EVERYWHERE and don't care about zip codes when they bite.

Re: Pirate Fish Alaia Remo II
If you wanted to go there, I would think the most efficient and functional way would be just build it like a GG spoon ie shape foam plug, glass bottom w/ 4-6 layers, shape out deck foam to final spoon shape and then glass deck. Fine tuning of glass thickness with grinder as needed... Right. Instead...

Re: Pirate Fish Alaia Remo II
Do you think its possible to laminate a few layers together to get a stiffer board for the same thickness or even thinner ? Something like 10 or 12 layers of wood veneer with glass in between or maybe a foam core with the multiple veneer layers built up around the rails like on a Greenough spoon ? ...
