Re: Pete Howorth & Petersen's Yearbooks etc
One of them is seven years back in the old forum. A short one pager from a magazine, not a yearbook. Is that the one you're looking for? It has a picture of young Rodney Sumpter at Salt Creek, and now I have to wonder if he ever did his tidal bore surfing on a bellyboard. http://rodndtube.com/paipo/...

Re: which resin for plywood ?
I agree with Mike, but it's probably worth mentioning that he was talking about polyurethane when he abbreviated it as poly. He's talking about an oil based varnish that is very clear and dries quickly. If you change the shape of your board, or make a repair, then matching the finish is easy. It's a...

Re: Another blast from the past..
In the Snake's History of short surfboards at Huntington, he talks about how the Blackball led to an increase in kneeboarders. And that led to short boards for stand up riders. Interesting stuff: http://surflibrary.org/evolution.html It would be nice if a qualified person could write the bellyboard ...

Re: Another last from the past..
That looks like one of the small ones. I had one that was three feet or less. Definitely meant to be a bellyboard, or maybe the 3 foot leftover from a nine foot blank. I seem to recall they came from the Frog House, but I can't remember who told me that. Rasta Colors??

Re: Anyone know about this ProLine board
Ya, it looks like it could be a Macski fiberlass bodyboard from South Africa. Other hallmarks would be a web strap handle on the nose, and metal alloy fin boxes (not kidding.) http://www.vintagebodyboards.com/item.asp?ID=049 Also google Macski bodyboard images. Very durbale boards. After the big apo...

Re: Which paipo for hollow waves ?
I know the focus here in this thread was wood boards, but I think it's worth mentioning John Galera's fiberglass boards.

Re: Cramps!
I read an interesting book recently titled "Body by Science" by McGuff and Little. It challenges the old belief that one day of rest is good enough. The writers recommend six days of rest after a high intensity workout, because the repair and replenishment of your muscles can take take tha...

Re: Surfer Dies at One My Main Spots
Sometime there's safety in numbers, or at least it feels that way. It looks like the Bay Area Bodysurfing group is meeting at Cron/Rodeo on Saturday the 27th. A mix of bodysurfers, handplaners, and bodyboarders. I'm going to try to get my cork fish down there for people that want to ride it. Their f...

Re: Cork Shaping Class on Sunday January 24th
That's kind of a Where's Waldo picture...can you tell which guy in the photo is originally from San Diego? I wanted a deep fish tail, because that's something you don't get on a stock foam bodyboard. And thanks again to Dave for catering to my inner mad scientist. He made me a custom blank with a ta...

Re: Cork Shaping Class on Sunday January 24th
Is there a special sandwich for the drop knee riders? I'm also curious about putting the panel stringer on the bottom. Surely people must have ridden the boards upside down, but have there been any customs with the bump on the bottom? I thinking of something like an edge board, or a stepped-bottom b...

Re: Cork Shaping Class on Sunday January 24th
More layers would mean more glue joints, and a difference in stiffness. I haven't discussed this with Dave. The length issue was either mentioned on his blog or newsletter. The constraint was the availability of the 1/2 inch cork in longer lengths. Longer 1/2 inch cork could be too expensive. I thin...

Re: Cork Shaping Class on Sunday January 24th
That raises the question...what length blank are you looking for?
Right now I think Dave is working on the backlog for his production boards. Maybe down the road he can make some longer blanks. It might involve more layers, because the stuff that comes in rolls is thinner.

Sure thing. Did you have any particular shape in mind? The current blanks are 47 x 23 inches.

Cork Shaping Class on Sunday January 24th
As of this writing there are still 2 openings left in the Bodypo shaping class at the California Surfcraft factory in San Rafael. Who knows what sort of custom boards will emerge from this Cork Think Tank. I'm already signed up, are any of you? http://californiasurfcraft.com/products/bodypo-shaping-...

The Insanity is 42.5 inches long, and the wide point is 19 inches up from the tail. So sort of piggy.

The Finless Board Challenge
Some of you take the fins out of your board, and ride it finless. Then you're riding a finless board that was designed to be ridden with fins. I propose a different approach to fins vs finless comparisons. Start with a board that was designed to be finless, and then add fins. Pictured below is a fin...

Re: Frankenboogie Mk. II
That's pretty cool! How well did it surf? Did it making taking off easier? Oops, I never answered those questions. It took off and rode just fine. It was actually a wooden wakeboard, so it had a continuous rocker. That and the round tail made it easy to steer through the crowds. My main goals were ...
