Re: Nose thickness

Mike Stewart has a couple videos that go into the details of skillfully riding a BB much of which can be applied to Paipo riding as well.
The sound quality on this one is pretty awful but it's worth watching.

Re: Quad Concave Body Board Study

The first alaia I built was slightly oversize. Over time I slowly paired it down little by little eventually thinning it out to to where it was thin enough to flex enough to really give some spring back when it was pushed. Less than 3/8ths" It was the best thing ever. It felt alive and was such...

Re: Dreamtime

Right before the Covid hit SHACC opened an exhibit featuring Surfing in The Movies. We had Greenough's Big Wednesday camera rig on display that weighs over 30lbs. A Go Pro weighs a little over 4 oz. There's also a 35MM film case carrying a copy of Jack McCoy's film Storm Riders (two reels) that weig...

Re: Non Skinny Paipo

Given the reasons for the nose design, does it add much thickness? You'd assume it does but the nose rocker would thin it out a bit. Has it been in the water yet? I naturally used the cut off from the front of the board for the scarf to get the increased nose rocker, handle and leash plug into the ...

Re: Wet suit cool water

A couple of the wetsuit makers do a vest with the hood attached. I have one I use when it's really cold and I put it on last which does a really good job of sealing off the neck and zipper. If it's really cold, I sometimes wear a thin wool sleeveless undershirt under the wetsuit as well. It works su...

Re: Travel Board

If this is something one wants to pursue, the old Pope Bi-Sect travel boards worked. Need thickness though. And I think I mentioned earlier kayaks, and i believe paddleboards in design phase, have various methods to join two parts. Having handled several of the Bi and Tri sect type boards; They are...

What is the extra thickness on the front for ?

The added thickness scarfed to the nose allows for increased nose rocker, provides a convenient hand hold and increases the strength of the leash plug.

I made a 15" x 5'5" alaia style board a few years back. It's the one I use when the surf is small.

Re: fish the movie

Thanks Uncle G, looks like it was a great exhibition. Was this the one Richard Kelvin had something to do with? If not, do you know who put it together? Yes, this was the exhibit put together by Richard KENVIN. The catalog from this show (mentioned above) is excellent. https://mitpress.mit.edu/book...
