Re: Mexico

I love Mexico and have traveled extensively in Baja and the Pacific coast mainland. Up until a few years ago,we used to spend a couple weeks in Baja every three or four months but now that meth and the "breaking bad" antics that come with it have become a part of the peninsula I no longer ...

Uncle G how does the board go compared to the concave bottom.

Tough to describe.
Do you have any experience with displacement hull surfboards? Kind of like that, but finless.
It sticks to the wave, in a good way.

Re: Greetings from the Island thats not an Island.

Thanks. That was the second one I made; it has deep concave down the length of the bottom. It still gets plenty of use, especially on the really small days. Here's the most recent of the alaia style boards I've done. http://orig02.deviantart.net/e2f9/f/2015/342/c/2/img_0962__360x640__by_kipapa-d9jgv...

Re: River surfing:Setting the record straight.

Besides John Clark I would suggest also Tom (Pohaku) Stone & Malcolm Gault-Williams as sources. As far as contacting the Bishop about surf info, good luck with that. Working at SHACC for years I have reached out to them more than once to no avail. In fact just last week one of our SHACC members ...

Where can you buy and at what price Unobtanium skins? in Europe? mechanical properties and how to use it? I do not find anything about that, I know that Poc has used it for a helmet to ride a bike, but nothing else, it seems a kind of plastic In the USA April 1 is a day for jokes. Abril Tonto mas o...

Re: aluminium sheet+ eps/xps board

I've been on a similar quest for the perfect flex for a few years now and most of my experiments ended up either too heavy or too stiff for my taste as well. Always end up back at solid wood (Paulownia) boards shaped just thin enough but no more....coincidentally I just placed an order for more Paul...

The rope handles on kneeboards were pretty common back in the 70's and that fin looks like maybe a Brewer wide base or Hynson DolFin, both thick based fins very popular then as well..

I picked up this little nugget a couple weeks ago when we hosted the Vintage Surf Collector Club at SHACC for their annual gathering. Shaped by Billy Butler, a fairly well known local builder of long distance/racing paddle boards. At 21"X 41" it's probably too small for me but I liked the ...

A surfmat might be fun in these conditions, but if you don't like side slipping, forget it In my experience, 1-2 foot mushy wind waves to 6+ ft steep but not barrels, to 4-5 foot tubes, with practice and proper inflation for the waves, side slipping is almost completely optional on a modern surfmat...

A long conversation with Tom at a Sacred Craft event several years ago is what led to my getting hooked on the Alaia type boards.
If you ride prone, you sould have at least one.

"it was like riding a longboard boogie board " I like this comparison. The great feeling of trimming down the line, drawing a clean line, but prone. But yet,6', isn't it a bit too long ? This is the one I'm on in the avatar. It's 5'5" X 15.5" and I am planning on building a 6 fo...

No.
Only those shitty ones made from really cheap EPS like the ones Krusher mentioned.

FWIW I love Tom Morey and his creations..
