Re: Paipo volume and bouyancy
Ted, Thanks. I don't completely understand what you did - so my questions 1) "I filled a trash can with water and shoved a board in until it bottomed" - So the trash can was completely full, then you get your board and push it down until the nose or tail contacts the bottom of the tarsh ca...

Re: Two Crows Belly Board
I think it is a matter of being able to draw different lines. I have a couple of boards I have ridden with and without fins. I now mostly ride them with fins, for shorter arcs and a bit more control (both when going really fast and when hitting a fat section on a wide tailed board). Again, it comes ...

Re: Paipo volume and bouyancy
Ted, I've attached a graph that compares volume by height and maximum thickness for a range of boards. Thickness distribution as well as maximum thickness are obviously important. How are you measuring volume? Bob attachment=0]Summary_chartx.xls Board Volume length thickness Huie 20.78 ...

That's a nice looking board which you've obviously given thought to. Pretty light. I believe Krusher who was posting here was also from Wales. A paipo revolution?

Re: Bottom Shapes Of Simple Wood Paipos
A recent surf trip, which offered a variety of conditions really highlighted that while most boards can surf most conditions, some boards go a lot better in certain conditions than others. I have a board with a strong concave bottom, I got more tubes in an hour or so than I've had in months of surfs...

Re: Bottom Shapes Of Simple Wood Paipos
Now that's a funny story. Reminds me of a guy who got his first board in the 70s and when it came to wax, his mother buffed the deck with floor wax.
Didn't stand up for too long on that wax job.
Did the guy ride your board?

Re: Short paipo video
I put a short video of fairly recent paipo gopro footage on Youtube. Fun waves, but the camera angle was off. I wish I had a chance to film (and surf) more often! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCAHUua4eZ8&feature=youtu.be It would be interesting to compare land and go ...

Re: Two Crows Belly Board
I e-mailed Two Crows. Nick & Carl replied, not sure which one though. They said they make a board a month or so and are experimenting with fins and bottoms.
I asked for some more details regarding who is riding them/where.

Re: Two Crows Belly Board
I've been communciating recently with some Simmons and hull aficinados. Small 3" fins are their preference.
I have a pair on one board, I think they need to b longer at the base - they're 4"
I'm curious to know some more about TC's.

Re: Rails
I agree with the hard rails, Mike talked about reducing a 1/2" board to to 1/4" on the rails. He may have a different approach, but I would take some of this thickness off the bottom, not just the top (still a flat bottom but take some thickness 1.5 - 2" inches in from the rail line, ...

It would be interesting to see the Wegener board in profile. The lines of the red railed Greenough board really catch the eye. Anyone know the dimensions?

Contact cement as Uncle G suggests. Rod's idea is good as well.

Pete,
I've used Tradewinds freight to ship a few boards from Hawaii to Oz (door to door) - http://www.twcf.com.au/
Freight can be exxy, so there may be local options worth pursuing. E-mail if you like.

Re: Buffalo's Big Board Surfing Contest
Over 50 or over 250 lbs and no skegs. These are just contest rules - they don't define what constitutes a paipo. The HPD isn't a traditional paipo nor are Wally Froiseth's twin finned Pai po boards. Obstreperousness aside, Paipo Jim makes an interesting point that very neutral paipo are more like bo...

Re: An unusual (?) surf injury
I haven't been thrown over backwards but have sprained my thumb hanging onto the rope handle of a nofin for too long during a wipeout. Like PJ I have scraped my knuckles duckdiving just after jumping off a rocky point into real shallow water. Without fins, the shallowness wasn't a problem, but holdi...

Re: 47" Malama Kai test ride video
Ted,
Looks like a wave well suited to a paipo and a lot of fun. It also reminds me that certain types of boards will be more suited to this style of wave which is intense but relatively short.

BB's can be fast, what caught my eye was that there was speed over the flat spots and the lines being drawn.
