Re: BUFFALO BIG BOARD CLASSIC 2012

It looks like the contest in on for this coming weekend (2/18-20) with a declining NW swell.

HiPaipo, you gonna go and check it out for us? (My work schedule won't let me go.)

Austin helmet video 2-7-12

South winds and NW swell favored some obscure breaks in North Kohala. The left was clean, small and fun. http://youtu.be/NhpxIzP4NTI The surf was breaking really close to the rocks on the right - on the rocks, in fact. It looks almost makeable with a high line. The post-wipeout scramble portion take...

Re: Another bellyboard video!

Having fun in the slop is a blast. Two foot slop with friends is better than six foot barrels with bunch of bozos. Your bellyboard video reminds me of the retrospective video of the English lady who has bellyboarded for 50+ years: same takeoff, same style of riding and same big smile. Bob, what's he...

Re: Austin mini paipo (44") impressions

On the last wave I did manage to get under the lip with the 50" before it closed out. On the third wave the 44" got stuck in the lip, so a good thrashing was unavoidable. Next go out with the 44" will be 2" sidebites with 4" center set way back.

Austin Paipo photos and videos 2-1-12

smaller.jpg Was solid 2-4' Hawaiian this morning. Austin 44" with 3" sidebites was a little slow on the bigger sets, so I rode my 50" Austin for the second hour. Video to follow. Album link: https://picasaweb.google.com/tedhon/Surf2112?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCNnH4pmhmd_W8AE&...

Re: Building A Paipo

I don't know what Redwings allows these days. The rules say "core of natural materials." My bodysurfing photographer buddy, the late Mike Rogers (http://rippanics.printroom.com/), said there is a heap of politics surrounding Redwings and Pt Panic. The notification for the Redwings contest ...

Re: Building A Paipo

Mike,

How does that narrowed "guitar pick" shape in your right hand ride? I been thinking about building a wooden board for the Redwings competition.

He must have mounted a three foot pole on the front of the board for the reverse POV shots (check the shadow after the duck dive). Very cool.

2 feet or 2 inches - that little guy is catching waves and having fun! (He caught more waves in two minutes than I did in 2 hours yesterday.)

Re: Oahu

OG-AZN, I talk to many sales reps from O'ahu who complain about the crowds there. They are always amazed to see photos of nearly empty, albeit rocky, breaks here on the Big Island. (So far those breaks have remained nameless, heh-heh.) Crime at my favorite breaks is non-existent: I leave my video ca...

Re: Austin mini paipo (44") impressions

Did the 44 give you anymore fin traction? Secondly.....do you think the 50 is more likely to be your board of second choice now? Bottom line.....I am getting an itchy finger for a similar 44.....and wondering if you feel it was money well spent. Paddling is really easy on the 44" - no more sco...

Austin mini paipo (44") impressions

See youtube footage at http://youtu.be/LSTIrs1cO0Q I finally got Austin mini in the water at my favorite break under decent conditions. Austin sent 3" center and 3" side bites with the board; I swapped in the 2" turbo tunnel brand side bites and set the center fin 1 inch behind the si...

I don't know. The last name is fairly common in Hawaii (and in Japan, I assume.)

Jake is the greatest - and very modest and personable.

Re: Oahu

O'ahu is getting bombed with 15 foot Hawaiian NNW right now - the Big Island is getting nothing. Rod is right: O'ahu has great all-around swell exposure except for SE shadow and minimal Kauai shadow (see http://ilikai.soest.hawaii.edu/HILO/Images/waimeashadow.jpg ) O'ahu has many more surf spots and...

Re: Paipo rideshare

The 44" Austin just arrived. Austin shipped a 3" center fin and 3" side bites. I installed a funboard nose guard and will install Surfmore XM clear grip. Here is a link: https://plus.google.com/photos/115079933993811677401/albums/5441641123587972513/5692220271152221362?banner=pwa Ther...
