Bellyboard Assortment SOLD
I'm looking to lighten up my collection. Sixties bellyboards, and some eighties fiberglass bodyboards. Some are fixer-uppers, and some of the boards are ridable as is. So is anyone was looking for something specific? Maybe something you wanted for a long time? A Newport Concave Vector? A Chuck Dent t...

Vintage Paipo Nui SOLD
I'm selling my vintage Paipo Nui for my cost at $375. The board can be picked up in Northern California in Lucerne, or I could drop it by your house on my way to the beach. I'm heading down to San Diego later in July or early August. Humboldt or Oregon are also possible, but I'm not sure when. The b...

Somewhere back in the Jetson Era, Union Carbide made something called the Captain Swim-Surfer.

Re: Belly Boards By Mouse
The Bellyfest meet in Pacific Beach in 2008. A very nice Mouse was on display. It was not for sale. Bad photo. You can barely see the board with the green rails on the far right. It looks like a text logo. Sorry...maybe a 1.2 megapixel camera back then. I can't remember if it had a fin or not. Arrrr...

Re: Belly Boards By Mouse
This Watney supposedly was made in the mid sixties in San Diego's North County. Not a sawed off board. It was supposedly shaped to be a bellyboard. The logo was a paper napkin from a bar that was nearby the surf factory or garage. Was it inspired by Mouse mania? We may never know. watney01.jpg watne...

Re: Belly Boards By Mouse
This one came up on Ebay some time ago. I think one of the guys in the Longboard Collectors Club (Cali) ended up with it. Is it a backyarder? Is it an early Mouse prototype? The logo says Custom Surfboards by Goldie. I seem to recall in the paipo interviews, that Romo mentioned making his own versio...

Re: Building a plywood paipo in the middle of nowhere in Ind
As I see it....you don't need nose rocker until you really need it. I'm also a big fan of nose blocks with a slightly sanded rocker. Here's one I did on a wide mini paipo. Having a firm grip on the nose of a sub 2 foot board makes pearling almost a non issue. You can easily recover from a near pearl...

One final tought...remember that Papillon escaped the island on a sack full of coconuts. You could do a modern variant using a Tyvek FedEx envelope filled with floaty bits. Instead of pushing the envelope of surfcraft design, you could simply ride the envelope.

Re: Building a plywood paipo in the middle of nowhere in Ind
We haven't heard much lately from Eef (Evert) in the Netherlands. His recycled plywood boards were low carbon footprint. He used mostly a saw and sanding blocks. No rocker. His simple approach makes it a good bush method. Where is Eef? Did the sharks finally get him? Here's some of his boards: http:...

Re: Building a plywood paipo in the middle of nowhere in Ind
You also mentioned gluing two thin sheets of plywood together. That won't do. It has to be a minimum of three layers to hold its shape. It's possible you might salvage some thin plywoods from packing crates. But how do you clamp them together without clamps or a vacuum bag set up? Again this is some...

Re: Building a plywood paipo in the middle of nowhere in Ind
Mr. Mike and I have both tinkered with boil bending solid timber boards. Sometimes using several clamps, and two being the minimum. bendblocks.jpg So what can be done in the bush with zero clamps? I've never tested it, but I think you could use the weight of a car to bend the boiled wood. Jack up th...

Re: SDF No3 paulownia wood board
I think two coats of epoxy is the safest way to start. That way you have a Plan B if it cracks along the grain...you can put on a layer of 4 oz. glass as a fix. I remember John Mellor snapping a surfboard that had a chambered stringer. It was 1 inch chambered redwood capped on either side with uncha...

Re: Board Stiffeners
Maybe I should steer clear of older PDF files and just go with links to Google. Here's Timothy Leonard's Variable Stiffener again. I call this the pizza paddle stiffener. I'm curious to know if anyone here has seen the prototypes or knows some story about it. Has anybody tried something similar to t...

Board Stiffeners
I wanted to start a thread about board stiffeners, and I've only got the start. So feel free to pitch in, and don't hold back if it involves a sponge bodyboard. There...we've warned the readers in advance. Hold on....technical problems. Rod, I can't open the PDF. It only gives me the option to save ...

Re: California Surfcraft Bodypo Review
Internal and external stiffeners probably deserve their own thread, but it might be worth a brief mention here. I seem to recall that Turbo had a sponge with a fiberglass torsion box inside it. I was just trying to look it up, and I came across these stringers that look like a double ended paddle......
