Rod, What campsite number will you be at? I am at one of the walkin sites I think. I won't know my number until I get there. I am going to get there Friday around 1 pm.

Kim (kage) has our campsite info -- expect we will arrive around the same time but he will give a more accurate answer. I am a "visitor" to this area!jbw4600 wrote:Rod, What campsite number will you be at? I am at one of the walkin sites I think. I won't know my number until I get there. We are in the san simeon "loop" but I don't think they give us a actual spot until we get there. Look for the white vw squareback and paipos laying around.

I will be riding in by bicycle with a surf mat and fins on Friday. If I can't get in on a hike/bike site, maybe I can piggyback with someone?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I'm gonna meet Ron in Ventura for some paipo riding. I don't think my sore back will tolerate the drive all the way to San Simeon.

Ahh, Ted, San Simeon is a nice drive from Ventura! Beautiful country up in that area as well. Hope your back suddenly improves, too!

Just got back from Pilates. My trainer worked me over good. She hurt me bad - I mean good.
I'm gonna head up to Ron's before dawn Friday.
There may be surf from SSW. Perhaps you guys should make the bee-yootiful drive down here. Just as scenic with the ocean on the right. (Especially the section of 405 from LAX to Long Beach.)

Re: Paipo Gathering in San Simeon Aug 3-5, 2012
I surfed with Ron and his son Sam this morning in Ventura. We had some fun size waves and good wind conditions from 8 to 11 am. Ron's 50" x 20" x 1.25" paulownia paipo with knife edges and rolled bottom is fun to ride: easy paddling and takeoffs; very good down the line speed; and good turning. Ron's board has parallel rails, unlike Josh's usual Malama Kai model.
Was just the three of us surfing, so crowds not a problem.

I will build up a web page to consolidate pics from the San Simeon Gathering. Please send pics to me: paipodude@mypaipoboards.org
In the meantime I am posting several to a DropBox account for "review" by local authorities before releasing them to the "general public."

Rod, Do you know any good programs to email photos? When I try to send mine, my browser says the file is too big. Thanks

https://www.yousendit.com/ is a good program. My email client, Thunderbird, uses it. It also appears that you can log-in, compose the email with attachments and send the files.jbw4600 wrote:Rod, Do you know any good programs to email photos? Update: It is easier to use the Thunderbird email client than sending from within the program. You might be able to do a "share" of a folder with me. Another method would be to load the files into Google Drive, create a folder and share it with me. Of course, you will need a Google account.
Other options include using an on-line "cloud" service for free hosting of files (Google's G--Drive is an example of one). Others that I have used include DropBox and SugarSync.

Re: Paipo Gathering in San Simeon Aug 3-5, 2012
It took awhile to get my act together, collate all the photographs and so on... but, in summary:
"Spent a very enjoyable long weekend camping with other paipo enthusiasts in Central California, just below Big Sur and north of Cambria, at San Simeon State Park. The location is great, offers a ton of wave break options and is close enough to re-load on supplies in San Simeon. However, July and August probably aren't advisable due to the crowded and cramped conditions. The State Park was in overload mode... I don't think this is what the rangers signed up for. Many thanks to my personal host, Kim Green, and to our area host, Dr. Robert. Additional extra thanks to our supreme camp chefs, Kim and Trevor. Talk about camp cooking taken to the next level!"
