Music?
Good music is a key ingredient of the sweet life. What music do you play before and after surfing?
To get amped up, especially on the drive to the waves in the morning, I prefer classic punk/ classic rock such as AC/DC, the Sex Pistols, and Motörhead.
Afterwards, I lean towards mellow stuff such as the Band or Van Morrison.
What's your secret sauce?

Re: Music?
Well....since you brought up music this Proud Papa likes to close out a session listening to Dreamers by Them Terribles. My Son is on vocals and lead guitar. Shaun Tomson closed out his film "Bustin Down the Door" with this song.

Re: Music?
Many times it depends upon the anticipated surf or where I am at the time. On the long ride to the Delaware-Maryland beaches, during that last 45 minutes I like cranking it up with some fast tempo amped up sounds (take your pick - Ramones, 4:40 (Juan Luis Guerra), something with an edge). For larger expected surf it is something darker or deeper for getting focused. In PR, I am always dialed into a traditional salsa/merengue radio station.
Post surf... anything but talk radio!!! (Well, that goes for pre-surf, too!)

SJB, that is a solid song! I remember it very well from the film. It captures a great vibe.

Re: Music?
Thanks Atlanta. They had a modicum of success....their biggest glory day was playing MTV studio in Time Square. Then egos got in the way of things and the group self destructed. Broke my heart.
Son Jonny then joined a band called Dead Country and their biggest glory day was playing the US Surf Open at Huntington Beach 2011 and then they subsequently drifted apart.
Jeez.
Tough biz. Jonny does some solo stuff now under the name Jean Noir but he now has a serious girl friend and a real job to go with that obligation. No more touring.
More info than you asked for but there it is.
Thanks for asking.

Re: Music?
I listen to just about anything if the musicians are good with their instruments. I especially like stuff that's beyond the fringe. Here's a self empowerment song for paipo boarders approaching retirement:

Re: Music?
Depends on my mood. I'm looking for a motivational feeling before and something of a celebratory feeling after and often they are the same music. I lean towards lesser know bands but not always. My taste runs the whole spectrum from classical to dark ambient black/doom metal. Progressive rock bands on the heavier side like The Shadow Principle make up a good portion of what I listen to. Toss in some Pink Floyd or Hawkwind from time to time. There is a good surf band I recently found called Freedom Hawk. They have a retro 70's Sabbath sound(sorta). Orchid the band from SF definitely sounds like Sabbath. I can ramble on about music forever so Ill just stop.

Re: Music?
BTW Hawkwind was Lemmy's 1st band and was an influence on the Sex Pistols. Listen to 'Brainstorm" and you will hear what I mean.

Re: Music?
Ha ha Six degrees of Lemmy Kilmister! He's the connector between all kinds of rock styles. He was friends with Hendrix and played in the Damned. That's quite a resume.

Re: Music?
I don't listen to music much these days (other than at work on the radio where I try to find classic rock station)
I see all guys on the webcast of the ASP surfing listening to music before there heats, I seem to always have to many thoughts rolling round my brain to have any concentration for music.
