Surf Snowdonia artificial wave
Well the worlds first commercially operating wave garden opens tomorrow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FO1R09X ... e=youtu.be
Even though I am in wales its still a 8 hour round trip drive from my south coast location to where it's located and roughly $70 for a hour and 20 waves (on the advanced wave)
I wont be rushing there but intend to give it one go at some time in the future.
I have been watching all the various promo vids that have popped up in the last few days, and spotted that on the outside of the pool, furthest from the advanced wave there might actually be a perfect knee high paipo wave, so I got a frame grab frame you guys to see.
The main wave is the distant white-water in front of the guy. The wave behind him is the small outside pool wave, which i don't know if was even supposed to happen but it looks like paipo tube city!!

And the water looks so inviting.......
Paipo surfer in repose,
Nose on the nose,
No grunting he-man pose.
See how fast he goes!
What is it he knows?

Its local river water which goes through a UV filter, its not over processed or chemicals added so if can simply go back into the local water table.Uncle Grumpy wrote:And the water looks so inviting.......

I would do it. But there is more to surfing than just riding waves.

Re: Surf Snowdonia artificial wave
On a purely technical level someone could learn to surf and ride this wave very well. If you didn't put in time surfing in the ocean I doubt it would translate very well - you wouldn't have the knowledge about reading different types of waves, rips, tides, duck diving, sneaker sets, swell forecasting, handling different types of waves, rock jumps, crowds, surf survival - breath holding, remaining calm while being held underwater, paddling endurance . No doubt some pool hotties could make the transition but the vast mass will get hammered in shorebreaks, struggle to catch waves, have no idea of surf etiquette or real waves.
This isn't to say you couldn't have fun but if this was the only wave you surfed your horizons would be narrow.

No, due to back wash the waves now arnt 60 secs apart they are 90. So a 1 hour session is now 13 wave instead of 20. $70 a hour over $5 a waveSJB wrote:Krusher....have you given this a go yet?

Its also a 8 hour 300 miles round trip from my house.
To get up there and do 2 hours would be a $200 trip,
Off to Portugal in october for a week for not alot more than that and will get more than 26 waves!
The waves at the redbull comp were on a higher power setting and spaced even further apart to get better conditions.
Here is a video with bodyboarding from 2.45 https://vimeo.com/136779238

What I like with artificial waves is that it will make the ocean less crowded.
People who are interested into performing tricks may pay to ride those perfect waves while the others who like to be in the nature will gain more room.
