I am up for almost anytime or location. However, EC seems like a nicer place. I have always wanted to surf there. But I don't know when the swell comes in. Also, I know that up north here in Nor Cal it would be too cold and rainy after the end of October. Maybe the weather is better down there. I would still go, even if it was late.

I had fun at the last one. But here wasn't much in the way of waves. However I caught one memorable wave there.

If you want to camp at the beach in California you have to have reservations. I'm going to check the situation at Emma Wood/Ventura River group camp. The website is unclear, so I'm hoping I can speak with the park host. Someone else should check El Cap.

OK, here's maybe a way to shortcut our way to success? RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from El Cap is a privately owned RV park called Ocean Mesa. I've been staying there for years, and it's unbelievably luxurious. It has an insane pool, super nice facilities with ultra clean showers, restrooms, a small well stocked store (*fresh coffee in the morning...), and they DO have a tent camping area that has like 50 sites. Trust me, in Nov or Dec, THEY WILL NOT BE FULL. Best part? You call a HUMAN, on the phone, and make reservations (*not sure that we'd need any this time of year...). You don't have to use some computer reservation deal like at EC. In short, it has pretty much everything...............that El Cap doesn't.

You CAN walk to EC if you want, it's all down hill going in (*maybe a half mile...), and all uphill coming out. Or drive down after checking it from up top, and pay the day use fee. Super easy to do. It's all basically a way to be in the El Cap area, but you're now upgrading to a much nicer facility. Did I mention the hot tub? After a long surf...................... that pool, hot tub, and nice shower all REALLY fit the bill. Picnic tables, bbq setups, and all the rest are there, as well as a huge lawn area and some insane hiking trails if that's your thing. It is a few dollars more per night than EC, but only a few dollars.

I think this group would really enjoy the niceties that this operation can offer. Their customer service is through the roof, you have an ocean view from the campsites, and it might be an easy place to get everybody together in a very nice environment.

Couple Skiff's recommendation with Uncle's mid week call and you have the clear winner. Seriously.... the Emma Wood group site is little better aesthetically than camping in a barren dirt parking lot no matter what day of the week. Sorry Nomas.

How many people would be interested in a West coast tour, like 3 campgrounds in 7 days? Or 4 campgrounds in 10 days? Not necessarily in the Winter.

I'm just going to concentrate on this palooza, not ready to commit to anything further. If we lock in on Ocean Mesa, I'm bringing a trailer and camping in that. And along those lines..................they do offer 'rent a trailer' that you can have 'delivered' right into a site, and then just start habitating it for the event? The OM mgmt. staff can arrange that for you I believe. Something to consider for those that may want to get up off the ground and splurge a bit more for some amenities?

I looked online and there are no spaces available Friday and Saturday during October at El Capitan. There are weekday spaces available. At Emma Wood there are only "Walkups" available with no reservation after Oct 1. Maybe the private campground in SB is the way to go.

There are some Sun/Mon/Tue, Oct 11 for 3 nights available at Carpenteria. Not that I really know these parks/campsites very well or the proximity to surf spots.

I could do sun, mon, tues. I could go with El Cap or most any other campground public or private. It looks like Rod has certain dates that he can come. So the question is whether the spots at El Captian beach get swell that early or not.

Keith, someday we will meet up, but it ain't in the cards this Nov/Dec, as I have family commitments down in Florida.

Hopefully, in the near-term, we can pull something off during Oct 11-13, 2015, as that is when the campground availabilities seem to be this time of year. As another suggested no reason not to have a couple of gatherings spread out over the Fall and Winter.

OK, so we're locking this thing DOWN? Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, October 11,12, and 13...? Ocean Mesa, right across the street from El Cap? Once we get some sort of agreement on this................. here's their phone number so guys can phone to make their own reservations: 866-410-5783. Either tent sites or RV slots, they will hook you up! Nobody can see the surf forecasting that far out, but with this El Nino thing bearing down on us, we are picking the best year in the last thirty to 'hope' for surf in October at El Cap. And even though they're forecasting 'more' rain than normal in California this season (*hopefully...), my guess is that in early October, it'll still be pure California-beautiful as far as that goes. Picking weekdays for this.................that was also a great idea. I say let's confirm and get this thing GOING. Looking forward to seeing all of you there, should be a lot of fun. Here's a photo of my little traveling Hobbit Hut that I'll be bringing.

I am ready to do a lock down for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, October 11,12, and 13 at Ocean Mesa. Only two nights for me (Sunday & Monday). Looks like a nice setup at Ocean Mesa.

I am in for part....perhaps all....to be determined. I will be tenting it. I live 20 minutes South so am struggling as to whether I want to day trip some of it so I can sleep in the comfort of my own bed. :?:
