1906 Paipo Surfing Postal Card

Hand drawn postcard, posted in Italy at Forte dei Marmi, Tuscany in July 1906. Posted to
Facebook by Charlie Spurr, who bought the postcard on ebay (Germany). A translation is being refined. However, one word, or term, remains somewhat of a mystery, girelate, other than it appears to refer to the prone surfing plank.

Hi "girellare" in Italian actually means going around -- hanging out with friends
Currently living and surfing the Med -- an Italian born raised in the US and now back in Italy working and living for the better part of 22 years
its all about the ride

The postcard is in German. As far as I know, Italy must have some of the earliest recorded surfing in Europe. There must be records in old photos, newspapers or books.

I shared some information with Geoff Cater that he has fleshed out on his website. When I get a chance I will post some additional info and insights gleamed from my forensic research, lol.
