Day Use Parking is only allowed until sunset...after that, parking available in the The Extra Vehicle parking lot. located at the end of
the main park road near the Del Mar RV camping area. With Pes bringing brats, I'm going to bring some hot dogs and buns, a squeeze bottle of catsup & mustard, roll of paper towels, some paper plates. A camp stove & coffee pot would be nice, as would a lantern. Beer, of course....

I'm only staying Saturday and Sunday night. Haven't heard from Kage yet. I'll text him. I don't think it'll be a problem to switch names in the reservation.

Changed it to Rods name because I couldn't remember PES last name. And they wanted a last name.

Everybody was surfriding!!!

Pez and I showed up to the campsites shortly after NomasT, and then it was down to business. Waves were on the down side as it has been for much of the past 4 months from what I have heard. Pez and I caught some little one in the 2 ft range, although my sneaker clean-up wave (no sets!) must have cleared 3 ft or I never would have caught it. Scene of the mastery was the C Street area of Ventura.

Personally, this was a big step forward since it was the first time on a board since my rather nasty left wrist break in late-May and surgery on May 31st. Not a definitive test, but I felt like a 10-year-old grommet catching his first wave :) So good to be riding on a wave and making a good cutback and such. Also identified where I need to start working on my left arm and shoulder to rebuild strength after several months of atrophy.

It was great to finally meet NomasT in-person and talk story. Pez is great to hang with, surf, talk, eat... he prepared some nasty beer brats on Sunday night that I roasted over the open fire grill. On Sunday, the Men with a Handle on things arrived early in the day and we talked more story, brought out boards, did a photo shoot and had a merry 'ol time.

Meanwhile, I continue on my road trip inching my way back to the Eastern Seaboard, doing more of a windshild tour of some of the national parks in the Sierras before heading over to Utah-way via a stopover at Ted Hon's place in Nevada.

Some board photos should be appearing soon but probably not by me for the next 2-3 weeks.

I thoroughly enjoyed the "Gathering", and meeting RodnDTube, Dr. Robert and Jeff Quam, while renewing my acquaintance with Pes. I especially enjoyed the lively discussion on Sunday morning. While I was looking forward to actually riding some of the shapes I've only read about over the past 8 yrs, there was enough information shared to provide food for thought for months to come. And as Dr.Robt pointed out, there's a lot to be gained from just holding a surfcraft under your arm. Jeff Quam's non-paipo "Fillet of Hot Curl" impressed me the most. It seems to solve some of the issues that I have found with my finless prone board shapes. I have been busy in Aku designing my application of the Hot Curl design to prone boards. I'll post my progress on a seperate thread soon.
I can only encourage more of you to attend future "Gatherings" if only for a day. It's not just about the waves, it's more about the wave-riders.

Was a good time even though the waves didn't cooperate with us. Good to meet a couple posters I haven't met yet and see some of their boards. I have some pictures but I believe Rod has more than what I took.

Super fun to meet up and talk story (lies).. and really great to see all the different board shapes , hear the design theories, and claims of performance aspects (more lies..ha ha!).
Definitely look forward to the next one, and encourage anyone who can go..to go. Especially if it's held where there is some surf!
