Anyone ridden a Hawaii Paipo Design XP

I'm interested to hear from anyone who has ridden a HPD XP? How do they compare with the Paipo Nui style HPD?

Paul says they cost $335. I believe shipping is extra.

There has been development of a more flexy model but this isn't available at present. Details I have are: "The board is 24 back hip. 23 front shoulder. 40 long. Same hull design (rails and materials)" as the standard boards.

One of the Pipeline lifeguards has been riding them. I'm hoping to get some feedback from him soon.

Paul has updated his website to include the new board, albeit a work in progress.

Thanks. Paul is trying to put me in contact with his test-pilot so I can ask a few questions.

HIs site redesign looks GREAT! No way to contact on there, yet but if you talk to him soon, tell him at least some of "the public" likes it!

I'm lookkng forward to any ride reports from test pilot because I like that more parallel outline a lot more I think. I made a pretty flat plywood "guitar pick" and just did not like the dynamics of the super wide tail. Could have been partly due to its just being overall too big for me but I really think I would like the newest version mo' bettah!

I have lots of different paipos as of now, but have always come back to the HPD XL. The new XP, I would love a go at, along with all of the othe HPDs too.

Geoffrey,

See http://www.paipo.com/ there is a phone number at the top and at the bottom an e-mail address: paipohawaii@mac.com
as well as the phone number again.

My view is that you need a decent sized wave or at least a wave with some punch for these boards to really shine. Spudnut no doubt has more experience riding them.

Geoffrey,

How long have you been there? I thought you were based inland US. How does 15 hours translate into distance? Lobitos may be worth a trip.

Bob, been in Ecuador about 5 weeks. First 4 in northern Andes in Cotacachi getting my residence visa squared away w/ help of excellent lawyer. Past month in Southern Andes in Vilcabamba living at Vipassana meditation center. And that last bit is a clue. As I get older and start looking increasingly at my "end game", priorities have shifted. Also having a bit of "old man bladder" issues, I seriously doubt I could make the bus trip. That would mean quite a bit more money and transportation hoops to bus to taxi to airport to bus to taxi etc... I will likely go to the coast one of these days but really, meditation seems to be my primary focus these days. Om, Baby, ommmmmmmm ;)

Vilcabamba has an interesting history. As Malaroo would say, onward.

So far as I know at this point, old sliver mining town for one thing, xpat/gringo magnet for last quite a few years. Lot of hippie types here, vegan raw fooders, backpackers passing through. Strange mix. Some say the Ecuadorians do not like expats all that much as they have been doing so much real estate speculation etc, driving up prices... and that in the part of the country there is sort of an unwritten code "herding" us/them to Vilcabamba. I do like it here though, a lot. And the meditation center is really pretty perfect for what I want at the moment.

It also had a reputation for the long lifespan of residents which I believe has since been disproved.

To bring the thread back to it's starting point - what is the sound of an XP sitting in a garage?

I haven't seen hardly any old people in the month I have been here though I did see quite a few up in Cotacachi while there.

To answer your on topic question--depends on if the dog knocked it over or if it is propped against padding and well secured. And I guess all that depends on who's garage it is!
