Different strokes for different folks. TBG2 is now my go to board. 43 inches long....and I love the "belly". But I am only 5'8"+ and 167 lbs+. I see Thomas is building a 50 inch board for Gorilla. My 50 inch Austin has not been out of the garage since I got the TBG2 six months ago. I like the center point further back...and if I was Gorilla size I would want something longer than 43". Keep on experimenting. I have found my board in the TBG2. Experimentation done.

G-surfer...I finished shaping your board today and it's in my glasser's capable hands, all 35L of it! Tomorrow, shaped blank gets sealer coat of epoxy resin+cabosil+a drop of white pigment and allowed to cure overnight. That will fill in most of the little EPS pock marks and provide a great base for lamination. Wed, light sanding and, then bottom and rails get air-sprayed your selected color "Moonlit Surf". Thur, deck laminated 4oz+4oz +40z and then hot-coated. Fri, bottom laminated 4oz+4oz and then hot-coated. Sat hot coat sanded, fin boxes routed, and fin boxes set and hot-coated, leash cups set and hot-coated. Mon fin boxes & leash cups sanded. deck gloss-coated. Tue, bottom gloss-coated. Wed, entire board wet-sanded and burnished to matte finish. Thu-Fri, final curing. Sat, 2/7 pick-up day!

Here's a few photos of some mischief we got into yesterday... the blue 'swirl' board is 5' 6" by 26" wide, wooden 'fish' fins. The yellow bottomed device is my 6'3" by 29" quad finn'ed Platter. We caught a rare pointbreak here in our area, and the crowd was manageable and the last dying gasp of this recent west swell provided some pretty insane peelers down into the cove....

Beam me up - looks like fun and where I should be right now instead of getting ready for work. Looks like you walked in.

Oh wow Skiff! That is a beautiful point break! I can't believe that's what you call a "crowd". haha Looks like there might be 6 or so in the water total. Here in Southern Cal. that would be an empty line up. Thanks for sharing these pics with us. I agree with Bob, beam me up too. Those are a couple of really nice boards. They both look really fun. I'll have to post some pics of my new ride when I pick it up from Thomas.

Yep, that was indeed a 'walk in', no need for the boat this day. NWS had been calling for extreme south winds, so we determined that using shoe leather might be a better call than bobbing around in a toy boat. Guys that were out with us had also been out over the weekend, and reported that it was dysfunctionally crowded beyond all imagination; which is hardly surprising give that point's reputation for quality and speed. Our little Monday exercise was mostly just luck, and isn't luck the best thing when it comes to surfing sometimes?

Yes sir! I was very fortunate to catch a dawn patrol session at lower trestles all alone a few years back. I was there a few hour before the horde showed up. I'll never forget that day. Talk about lucky.

Dude! I can't wait to hear a ride report on this shred sled!

the T-Belly design is intriguing. I'm curious to hear how it scales up to 35L.

We're getting close...Gorillasurf's board is the green one. More pix when he picks it up tomorrow. The white TBG3 above it is for a 5-8/170# rider. I think the shape extrapolates pretty well.

Sam wasn't wearing any for this, he just jumped in for a quick 30 minute session and didn't wear any. That's just him................for me? I wouldn't consider not wearing my Da Fins, from my 'research', they're an integral part of the whole experience. The boards have tremendous floatation (73 liters...), but they don't seem to want to paddle well with 'just' your arms paddling. I always just hold on to the tailblock with my fingertips for paddling back out, kicking methodically with my fins, and then, while catching a wave? I kick AND use my arms to paddle into them, and that combo seems to work best for me.

Here is G-Surfer's "Big Boy" TBG3. Dimensions are 50" x 23" x 2-3/4" 35.5L 6lb 4oz. The picture below shows it next to another new G3 I shaped for a rider 5-8/170#. Volume of that board is about 22L. The side-by-side comparison shows how well the G3 scales up in size. The scale-ability can also be seen in the rail-shot of the two boards, shown above. Both of the intended riders chose to go with the twin-fin set-up, but in keeping with the scale-ability theme, G-Surfer will need much larger fins, especially in bigger surf.
These are the last two TBG3s. The biggest difference in these last two G3s from previous G3s is the switch from a well-defined tail concave to a blended double concave tail with slight V. I start work on the new TBG4 next week. This board will be 3" longer (at 48"), than my old TB3. The extra length will necessitate changes in the outline, the foil and fin position. It will also continue the V-tail and "dual-exhaust" concept with double concaves exiting the tail, perhaps even deeper.

Noma, Your boards and what I'm riding are actually very similar. The 'platter' concept has two huge, deep double concaves running through the rear of the board, with a deep 'vee' between them. This vee is pronounced and allows a board this wide to be turned much more effectively going rail to rail. Both our boards seem to employ a 'hull-ish' shape up towards the nose...............all I can tell is that it somehow helps the board 'fit' better in the pocket. So with the twin 427's in the rear providing the engines for speed, and the rounded, hull'ish shape in the front to make it all fit, with the quad fins working in the tail to hold in the (*to some, extreme) width; it seems to be a package that covers most of the bases. Different branches off the same tree perhaps...

I was beginning to see a stretched out, thinned down plan shape variation of the HPDs/early-Val Valentine Paipo Nui boards (less fins). Sounds like the G4 will change that trending somewhat.

Skiff...I was up late last night totally redesigning the bottom of the G4. I started with deepening the exit concave, which accentuated the V. I really liked what I saw in the cross-section of the tail. Then, since I was on a roll, I added a little single-concave between the V and the convex entry. End result is pretty close to what you're doing. Hell, almost exactly, just shorter, with wide-point behind center. My reasoning is exactly the same, especially regarding the exit concaves plus quad fins. I hoping that the slight center concave will offer a little lift, since I plan to be riding more forward on the board. I can't order the blank until tomorrow, and then will have to wait 1-2 wks to get it. Just hope the excellent surf holds up through Feb.
