These 2 boards are made from Paulonia boards and joined with 2 inch carbon dowels. Both just under 42 inches long, 18 inches wide and 1/2-3/4 inch. thick. I used wood dye to color the tops but left the bottom stained. Drilled leash cord holes at nose angled from nose to tail/top to bottom. Sealed with spar varnish. Both fast and light. Fun to ride.

Heres another design. 3 woods in this one...paulonia on the outside, poplar in the middle and basswood inlay between. Leash and center fin plugs on this one. Conditioned with tung oil. 4 feet long, 20 inches wide and 3/4 thick. Used biscuit joiner on this one.

Hers another...fun one. Its my Eddie Van Halen board. All poplar...finished with spar. 4 foot long, 20 wide and 3/4-1 thick. Cut grooves in bottom to channel water and installed side biter fin plugs. I may cut it down to lighten it up...maybe change tail into a fish.

Nice woodwork there. They are a long way from that paddleboard in the background. How do you find these short boards to surf?

This was the second style I made...balsa and basswood. maybe 18 wide and 28 long. I used hardwood dowels all the way through all of the boards to join these. Spar finish.

They are very light and floaty...lots of fun. Not that different from a boogieboard really just the wooden version. I made one for each of my kids and my Wife...so different sizes with the biggest one on the left for me. Definitely a long way from the board in the back of the pic. Thanks for commenting...wasn't sure I was posting these so that anyone else could see them!

I get the poplar from a local wood company and mill...get the rough boards. The paulonia comes from a place in GA. 199.00 for 3 boards... 8ft long 6 inches wide x1 1/8 thick. Ready to work with...planed and smooth. That's the best price for paulonia I have found. Basswood and balsa from an the cheapest online company I can find at the time I need it.
