This board was an earlier concept....same virtual template (but with more of a nose beak...), but with a flatter bottom and the twin fins.

View of the rocker. These boards were all built by starting with a 'fish' blank from US Blanks. Same dims; 6-3 x 29

It's interesting to be somewhere and trade off from the single fin to the twinnie? Very different results, though both have their plusses and minuses.

I prefer glass on fins for a variety of reasons.

We've had a surge of interest around here by parties from Santa Barbara through Monterey? Our local shaper, Shane Stoneman, has orders for five of these platters, and I watched him rough one out this morning...

Three will be twin fins, and two of the set will employ the big single fin, the Greenough 9.75" paddle fin. The more guys on these the better, can't wait to hear all the reactions as they start getting used this coming Fall and Winter.

Might be fun to put in the center box as well as plugs for the twins and you could switch back an forth with all else the same.

That's him. He's been very open to this whole design experiment, and his translations have been spot on. I'd highly reccomend him to anyone wanting to branch out to this type of wave riding tool, and you can contact him directly through his website.

i've played with bigger boards up into the 5-6' to 5'8 range by upto 25" wide. its definitely a different ride. i've done them in displacement hull bottoms, hull to flat to spiral vee, flat to vee, twin, single, quad. they werent anywhere near as maneuverable as my 4-2' - 5'0 range. they were faster down the line but i found my self out running a wave. my whole existence on these things is the barrel. the deeper and longer the better. i get nothing from cutbacks but, "dammit!" "I coulda been in that curl...." but, to each there own. the "project" is always a fun thing. keep going....have you tried a SUP prone yet?

The beauty of all of this is that there is room for everyone's idea of what their 'perfect' board is, their perfect ride, their perfect utilization of the wave. Obviously, we're all going to have different takes on what all this mix should be?

Proneman on Swaylocks I think often rides an 8 or 9 footer prone...

Loved this quote from the Safidy interview
"If they barked, it was "stand up." I only do, if they reward me with ice cream."

Me, I need sardines, or maybe a burrito, then I'll stand...

He says his boards are totally different from stand-up but actual description and photos look pretty much like point break specialty hulls to me! Nice, I like...

It's almost like this paipo niche has self-divided into two camps: those that ride the much smaller boards, and create for themselves what is in many ways a kind of 'bodysurfing experience'....? Body in the wave, legs dangling, totally in the pocket....? And the 'prone' guys, who seem to be more surfboard oriented, whatever type of board that is (and it seems to be way different for each guy)...? More board oriented, less body in the water, surfboard principles coming into play?

We can all argue, obsess, defend, and rail about the minutae, but in the end, it's simple time in the water that can validate most any approach, and isn't that the beauty of it?

Lots of waves to create the exact experience you are looking for....
