I hope to get the G5 prototype blank from Marko this week or next week, at the latest. I'll post some photos in a separate thread. But, one lesson here is that the shaper (amateur or pro) must always consider the shape as a whole, noting how all of the design features inter-relate. Pes' statement that he needs to "figure out" how to reconcile a thin rail shape with high overall board volume demonstrates this thought process. He's got it...

I don't know about Pes, but the added criteria is not having much thickness up front. I can see how a more even foil would allow more readily for volume increase.

Having trouble uploading at the "office"

Looks like going a bit wider will help get my rail profile a bit better because I tend to do too much in a short amount of space. Looking using a Marko wake skate blank on the next one. Going to have to wait a bit to do it though, if I can control myself.

Hadn't seen the Wake Skate blank before. Great for our purposes. Nice rockers and nice thickness. Very close tolerance...just take off a little here and a little there. I like shaping the 2lb stuff, its my goto density for EPS. Finishes pretty nice. Do you know how much crown there is in the deck of the blank? Or, how thick the rails are, say, 2" in from the outline? I put most of my thickness out there, so it would be good to know.

Hi Paul,

It is a sled cut style blank with a flat deck and square rails but it is still a form molded blank. We have both a thick and regular version of the blank so if you wanted a closer tolerance the regular is the one I would suggest. We can do a custom rocker as well as long as its not to radically different from what the natural rocker is.

Looks like the "Wake Skate" blank is the same thickness out to the rail, which would make pretty it versatile, allowing either a crowned deck, flat or concave. Pretty cool for our purposes.

I like that feature, now you could actually "see" the blank.

Ordering a blank tomorrow. Instead of shaping in one day, I'm going to take two weekends to shape the board. Take my time doing it rough out the blank first weekend and finish it up the following weekend.

Yes...the process is more Zen/meditative than a race.

Here's what I came up with today, I shaped the board in my head for two weeks while waiting for the blank and this isn't what was in my mind. Dims are 4'6" 22.75 1.75" belly in the nose to flat to single through the fins. Slight concave deck with fins set at 4" and 1/8" toe twin fin. I used the marko wake surf blank, I hadn't shaped EPS for quite awhile. I didn't listen to myself and take two shaping sessions to do what I wanted to do. Not sure where I stand with shaping now think I'll take a long break from it.

Here's what we got going today. Need to rework the outline a bit because there are a couple issues in the nose and tail that I want to fix. Dims are right now 4' x 22" thickness about 1.5". Slight concave deck bottom is flat and I'll be having bonzer 3 fin side fins glassed on. Will update final dims tomorrow when I finish it up.

So the bottom was a bit messed up yesterday and I attempted to flatten it out today. Didn't feel like chasing things so it's a bit of belly with some double through the fins. Fins are set 4" off the tail and 2" off rail. Toed in .25" with 5 degrees cant. Redid the nose by cutting down the length 2".

Looking forward to seeing the finned-up version.

Aloha, I cut and shape boards that are 3/8" thick and of course easier to control and maneuvers than thick board.

Picked this up a couple weeks ago. Been pretty bad wave wise down here only had it out twice I think.
