I'm interested to see what is being ridden at the moment?

I'm curious too. I'm sort of on the bench at the moment, my beloved DiStephano soft kneeboard which I have ridden finless as a paipo for years and years having given up the performance ghost. Alas, a wall hanger for me. I'm over the thin plywood boards in cold water. They may get wet in warm summer waters, or not at all. This late U.S. autumn it's been a boogie or one of my handboards, neither of which I suppose qualify.

I was set to get materials and some gear and go the foam and fiberglass route but the weather became inhospitable. Heat and heavy Santa Ana winds take away my workspace and the local fires have made going outside hazardous - it frequently hurts to breathe indoors lately and I'm miles from actual fire zones. In many ways the environment has been oppressive and grim, week after week...much like contemporary surf culture in general has been in recent years to veteran eyes. What to do, what to do...

I've even been considering standing up again...

I hear you Nels...Ojai has set records for poor air quality and Ventura is not that much better. Going south to San Diego for Xmas and will take the G5 along. O'side Harbor or Ponto could be fun.

I use my plywood boards most of the time, occasionnaly a 42" bodyboard (when it is a little too big for me with the paipo), and sometimes a stand up board (when it is just too small to ride prone).

Also I just bought this foam board :

It is 52", made of EPS foam, has a slick bottom AND deck, twin FCS plugs. I bought it so my sons can use it stand up, but I will try to use it as a big paipo on small days, maybe as a kneeboard too, or drop knee, it might be fun, that will be my next test :D

I just got back from surfing Florida using a board I call "The Truck." It is a 5'4'' mini-Simmons with twin keels.

Here is a look at what I was surfing Saturday. Some Of the cleanest, longest waves I've ever had in Florida. The photographer didn't take any pics of me, but I was right there in the thick of it.

How do you like riding on the 5' 4" mini simmons? You ride it prone right? Do you wear fins or can you arm paddle into the waves?

Sweet conditions ! How would you describe the advantages of riding such a big board prone ? Is it a lot faster ?

I do ride it prone. I wouldn't say it is faster than other boards, but I think the extra volume makes catching waves easier. The spot is usually small and weak and packed with SUPs and long boarders. I can't sit as far out as them, but i do want to get the wave as early as possible.

When paddling for a wave, do you use your arms in addition to your fins ?

I use my legs to catch the waves, with a little bit of arm assist as the wave is beginning to lift me up (if that makes sense).

The t-belly on the left is my best board, but it is a little too short for me
If the waves are mushy. When I need a little more float for mushy, slow waves,
I have fun on the red 50 inch softech...surprisingly fast and catches waves easily.
But all of them have their charms—
