Latest Paipo

Been away for a while! but here's the latest paipo I've been working on:

E9FB459E-A51A-4563-9733-E91FCEAA8853.jpeg
Solid walnut 40.5" x 19" and 15mm max thickness. Convex profile top and bottom with very slight natural rocker.

I've been using tulipwood for this type of design so it should be interesting to see how I get on with the walnut which I've only used in handplanes before.

Very Nice.
FWIW,
Boat builders have a long held superstition against using walnut in watercraft.
It's known to them as "coffin wood".
I wouldn't worry about it tho'. ;)
Paipo surfer in repose,
Nose on the nose,
No grunting he-man pose.
See how fast he goes!
What is it he knows?

Well, since there's some old tradition of using coffin lids as paipo boards, it's all good...

How does it ride compared to your earlier boards?

Funnily enough my Grandad's sister was married to the guy who developed the original coffin lid bellyboards...

Being solid they don't have the buoyancy of the hollow boards. But being thin they duck dive like a dream and cut into the way face really nicely.
