There must be something very special about this board...

Or, did somebody add to many zeros? It sold for $13K (22 bids, and started at 99 cents!).

Must be money laundering, because looking at that I'd say it's a mediocre reshape of a broken old double foam stringer longboard in poor condition. There's a balsa bellyboard from the 50's that has potential Bob Simmons lineage (which can't be verified beyond whatever it is today I guess)...and they're selling that for less last time I looked.

Poobah has good timing if he decides to thin out his paipo quiver on ebay though...

What was the background to the board? I couldn't see any details. It looks like a dog and isn't in good condition.

Rod,

Can more be found out? I'm amazed someone would fork out so much $ based on such limited information. Does the person sell other stuff?

I did not do any follow-up. Feel free to try contacting the seller using the above link. Check the buyer history as well. Both may be kind of cloaked.

A cool $15,000 is the "buy now" price for this piece of (my) surfing history...

Nels... is it full of secret microfilm data intercepted from those big antennas near by your haunts?

Sweet looking Blob!

I'm guessing that the ebay seller is initially responsible for a fee based on the end of auction. I wonder how long it takes to sort that out. The bidding was done by two newbies, or one person pretending to be two people. A flaw in the system...maybe newbies shouldn't be allowed to bid over a certain dollar amount.

I also have to fault the seller for calling the board rare, and saying it only had minor wear. But also worth noting that the bidding started at 99 cents.

Once upon a time that little board probably had a great value to someone. Maybe it was for a son or little brother. From that bygone era before the arrival of Chinese junk. It warms my heart and makes me a little sad at the same time.

Back to the tangent...Nels, is the Blob a strap-on handboard?

Nels would you take $14,750 for the Blob?

With that much of a discount you would have to pick it up here in California...but it's summer and we're supposed to get some surf soon...

That is the only thing that might make sense...but...well...
is the Blob a strap-on handboard?
You said "strap-on"...heh heh heh...but no, it's about a 36" chunk of semi-reshaped broken board scavenged from Supertubes in far north Malibu. Close examination might reveal it to be a classic example of throwing everything into one project (like throwing a bunch of colors together)...which would be fairly true...but at the time I was interested in the idea of a mass of floatation with some static planing surface. I was getting into mats, I'd read and remembered about people riding wet "inflated" pillow cases or whatever, and too shy to try out some oddball inflatable toy. And I was playing with colors and sparkles and foam and fiberglass...completely burnt out coming off an aerospace "career"...

This makes little sense

If it had some heritage I would have thought Rod or someone here would have known of it.

I watched one of the surfboard auctions and boards with documented history were going for a lot less than that :?

For having heritage that info sure wasn't posted on the eBay sales page. The two big bidders may known something. Or something else was going on, be it legit or not. Sure is curious.
