Sectional Board for travel

Here is food for thought on the question of how to make boards more travel thrifty .. A board the breaks down into sections.

The key question is, will this Beater make a good paipo? Has anyone tried it as a prone board? In one of the interviews (I think) a guy on the East Coast was making soft kneeboards that also worked as paipos. What was his name?

You can ride these kinds of boards prone, but I find them awkward compared to a regular boogie due to the shape and increased length & thickness. If you're using swim fins, these boards are fun as a kneeboard or drop knee board. Despite how easy the "Beater" team riders make it look, stand up surfing / paddling these boards w/o fins is a lot of work if there's a tough paddle at the spot you're riding or you have to compete for waves.

I think the "travel beater" is a great concept and could take off with more refinement. However, the ride experience w/ these things is definitely more bodyboard rather than traditional paipo, imho.

I posted the link more to discuss the idea of a sectional board then the specifics of a beater. However, I tried one a couple years ago .. it felt to bulky for paipo objectives. I am not sure that the sectional approach would hold up under stress but the idea of running rods inside of tubes does make sense if one was trying to go down the sectional route.
