Since my local shaper, Mark Pridmore shaped the GST (gut sliding turtle) - all 4'2" X 22 1/2" X 3s" of it I have two options of getting it to the beach.
Straight in the boot of the Toyota Camry sedan.
Or I can even ride my Vespa PX 200 scooter to the beach.
Didn't have a board bag this small on hand to put it in so the wife and I got to work on fixing that.
We used upholstery fabric and stitched in an inner layer of padding which is a soft foam with an almost moleskin like finish.
Put two loops on it to attach a shoulder strap off one of my board bags I already have. No need to make a seperate shoulder strap when I have a few already lying around.
Draw string in the end.
Was going to do a flap and velcro but the drawstring works well too.
Now if I want to I can sling it over my shoulder and ride to the beach with no need to buy a special rack to hang it off the side (which costs a few hundred).
Will put a loop in the front to secure the nose so it doesn't waggle about while riding.
Cops will love me.
We usually make padded didgeridoo, djembe drum and cigar box slide guitar covers with this kind of fabric for fellow stall holders at Eumundi markets in Qld where we live.
BTW I'm not trying to sell these.
Merely showing what we've made as there can't be much around in commercially made covers for fibreglass paipos in the 4-5' length.
I've been using the cover for 6 months now and the padding has allowed it to stay ding free when handling around the garage which is pretty full so it's served its purpose.
Unfortunately the board doesn't fit in the boot anymore as there's an LPG gas tank eating up space. So the board cover is now even more useful when the boards up on the roof racks.
Anyone else make their own covers?

I've made a couple but they are just simple drawstring bags.

I like them.
By the look of the fabric choice and the fastback Mike's the hippy! :)
Do you just do a single layer of fabric or double layer?
I can't source the foam/fabric I used on the pictured cover anynore which is a shame.
The wax didn't seem to stick to it which is a bonus when getting the board in and out of the cover.

That is not a fastback, it is a squareback! My first car was a 1966 VW Squareback. I really miss that car

O ;) oops...shows how much I know about Vdubs.
I've only owned a 67 bug back in the 80's but another driver decided she didn't like the entire drivers side and panel beat it into a new shape for me with her car.

I take the hippy remark as a compliment I was 18 in 1967 (I think..... but I don't rember much from that time). the vw is a 1972. the wax can be a problem with tight fiting bags I try to keep then sort of loose

Had to sell the 67 crew cab some of you may remember (my baby, sob, sob) but since them I am rocking it Mr. Mike style with a 72 squareback. A little more suited to my current pocketbook. And tastefully understated (like Mr. M.).
Fastback? really, as if.

Who would have guessed a direct correlation between driving a squareback and riding a paipo!

Ca. Summer of 1967, country of Carolina, Puerto Rico, with my first board on top. Ready for the drive to La Pared, Luquillo, PR, for a surf session. I was a learning surfer. That is a 9'4" Hobie Noserider strapped on top, my first board. Two years later I owned a VW Bug but had a choice or running it into a huge old monster winged Chevy or over a 100 ft cliff on a curving mountain road in PR when the brakes failed. Bought it for $100 and sold it for $100. My surf buggy of choice these days is a minivan: Astro MiniVan (nice, but a real lemon), Dodge GrandCaravan (serviced me well), and currently a Honda Odyssey.
