Hi guys thinking of my next project, my current favourite board is a copy of Trevor Yamamotos design in 12mm ply , what timber type and thickness could I make one using glued strips to have enough strength with slight flex not and not to heavy.

I asked Global Ernie, he suggested:

"I think the simplest approach is to buy one 8x4 sheet of 3mm marine ply. Cut into four pieces 4 x 2 and then use the glue up
process to form whatever rocker/nose/tail lift you desire, the glue will hold the curve permanently. Draw on your plan shape and cut out your BB.
Varnish or paint it. Personally i would only use 3 sheets to get a <10mm thick BB rather than a plus 12mm board. My 3x3mm plypo are plenty thick enough but still have flex ".

In the skateboard world they use a 2-pc press for bgreen’s suggested method.
With high enough density XPS, you can use 2 halves of foam with shaped desired rocker and place the glued up (title-bond III) ply into a vac-bag between the foam press pieces.
On the silverfishlongboarding skate build forum, they called it a “Dub Press.”
Check out the Roarockit skateboard build site.
