its the concave inside V that is the real holding power. I use it on my bodyboard outline-shaped paipo and holds very well.

Hi Keith Trevor YAmamoto rides paipos with parabolic rails in US and Hawai’i and speaks positively of them have you tried your boards without them , my boards are all 12-15” wide and hold good but my next will be 21-22 wide and was hoping a parabolic rail would help it hold a higher line .

I just use the hull shape from the alaia but on the bottom of a bodyboard template/thickness board. I personally think people's difficulty in holding a rail is from a board that is too long. You arnt standing up and the weight isnt on the back foot on the tail. The hip is our back foot and if thats way up the board it isnt controlling the back of the rail.

Good points Keith I find my hips are on the tail most times but have noticed my hips behind the tail on critical take offs occasionally my boards are approximately 1.2m long .

So 47". it looks very long in the pics because its not very wide, 21/22 will be a standard bodyboard width. I feel people keep trying to re-invent the wheel with paipos, as a bodyboarder for 20+ years before moving to paipos also. I can say that bodyboards have not been 42" by 21" for 30 years for no reason.

I’m tall so 47” is ok , this is someone else’s take on Trevor’s board this has a 23” tail his are a bit narrower and shorter

Coffin board, original shape
My father shaped me a coffin paipo board when I was 11 and my brother a semi bodyboard shape in the 70’s before “boogie boards” came out….

Took it out yesterday for a spin in shoulder high average conditions,in Mr Liu super man pose it worked really good but I need to practice this more, in body board style it seems to hold a high line but I think top speed is slightly less than a more straight rail board hopefully will get better surf soon to really test it.

my style is called “Malolo Style “ (flying fish)… I’m glad your got a hang on it because of your board shape to me it looks like a narrow board that it holds on 3’ft surf, I’d tried riding “pipeline” at 5’ft Hawaiian scale it can’t hold the steep drops do to riding a narrow board but if board tail is wider you could hold the drop much better
