Plans or design considerations
Hi all,
Brand new to the forum and board building. Many years since I've ridden (did start out on an inflatable surf mat, the progressed to real boards). Decided to get back into it, and having built a few wood kayaks and a SUP, wanted to build a paipo board.
I haven't come across any plans, only a kit for a Grain HWS 4' board. But looking to do something from scratch - thinking solid balsa or paulownia sheathed in glass/epoxy, or even ply with a RWC deck. Not hollow for the first build, will do that later.
I'm 5'11" and 83kgs (working on losing 5 or so at present ). Initially looking for a quick and simple design I can build over my Xmas break and take up the NSW south coast in January. Will then work on something more interesting.
So, hoping others here cna provide links to plans (happy to pay for commercial ones) or provide some basic design considerations I can use to get a board built. Will provide pics and feedback when done!
Soory for my first post to be a request, hopefully once I get back into it and have built one or two I can reciprocate with advice.
Thanks,
Darren

Darren,
It may not be so complicated that you need plans etc. What sort of waves are you wanting to surf - Ulladulla bombie or beachbreaks? Paulownia doesn't really need to be glassed whereas Balsa does. Between this site and Swaylocks there will be lots of design threads and tips.

This post is a link to the old paipo forum and suggests threads to search for:

Two build threads on this site:

Mr Mike & shapes: http://mypaipoboards.org/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=121
Do a google search: Swaylocks + "alaia build"
Go forth and multiply.

Hi,
Thanks Bob, appreciate the links and ideas.
Giving some thought to ply vs balsa and design, some good reading in the old forum posts. Will be back with design and build pics...

Re: Plans or design considerations
Boss made me a $10 ply wood paipo based on my paipo nui small. We couldn't get the rocker or spoon like rocker the paipo nui had. We tried but the new paipo would just spring back to flat regardless what we tried (steam, weight, time).
But honestly I think it is the shape and rails. If you want I can get you dims or do a trace and mail it to you. Let me know

Airboy,
How does the rocker on the Paipo Nui compare with the HPD? ( Sorry if off topic!)
