I prefer the look, feel and ride of solid wood but plywood will do.
I always end up adding a bit of flotation of some sort to plywood boards to make 'em more user friendly.
I'd like to have a shipping container full of nice straight grained Paulownia. :)

I make both, solid is nice ply is cheaper both ride nice, ply is by far more durable here are two solid wood boards one is redwood the other is black walnut and one blue ply board :D
