Jemski epoxy paipo
Well my original SDF PU/fiberglass board although still functioning fine, is heavily pressure dented and sunken
So it was time to get a new one, with my shaper friend Sam(SDF) off to indo for a while and him not making Eps/epoxy boards after helping out Jem (jemski epoxy surfcraft) with his platipus model he was just the man to show me the was of the epoxy!
I have gone for a direct copy of my original SDF board bar changing out the swallow tail for my version of a tomo surfboards raptor tail.
Jem normally does a layer of 8oz and 4oz on the deck,
i'm throwing some cotton fabric into the mix for a cloth deck inlay, any info or tips on how to laminate that and whether we should got less than 8 and 4 seeing there going to be cloth in there

Re: Jemski epoxy paipo
I used 3 layers of 4 oz on top and bottom with epoxy resin because I don't have stringer. After one year there is not a single dent or collapse.

Re: Jemski epoxy paipo
Thanks, good to know. (mines also stringerless)
It's 1lbs Eps
I don't now why Jem uses 8 and 4 (think it might be aerospace cloth he got locally), but it adds up to 12oz same as your treble 4. so should be good. His daughters board was done the same and as your board has no dents after years of use.

Re: Jemski epoxy paipo
Since they used epoxy, I am sure that it will be stronger than you last board.

Re: Jemski epoxy paipo
Here is a pic showing the deck elbow scoops, my old board and all my bodyboards have denting here from driving through my elbows on bottom turns so were gonna pre make those dents and put some carbon/kevlar in there

Re: Jemski epoxy paipo
Laid down the deck lamination's today, 3 layers of 4oz with a cotton material inlay in between layers one and two, so we have a 12oz + inlay deck, a double 4oz on the bottom.
We did not bother with the carbon kevlar elbow or tail pads so we can see just how strong it is without, if it dents up badly they will go in the next one.
Sadly got there and camera battery was dead Should be finished mid week
But this is the material

WHAT! No fins?
Nicely done! I really like the use of fabric on the deck.

I will pass it on to Jem howe of jemski waveski's and surfboards.nomastomas wrote:WHAT! No fins?

The cloth inlay seems to significantly stiffen up the deck compared to other boards he has made without, the cotton material really wetted out with the epoxy well
Oh bit of info too!
