Old Paipo board pic
I found this on a mini simmons site. They think it is a mini simmons. I think that it is an old paipo. What do you think? http://www.minisimmonssurfboards.com/mi ... -devansky/

Here is another of his father's shapes - http://ink361.com/app/photo/ig-61824573 ... 45_1138598
I sent John Elwell a link regarding the Simmons influence but the guy who could really answer the board's original purpose was his father who shaped the board.
There is an instagram e-mail address (if that is how it works?) to Andrew Devansky who might be able to say more about his father's boards.

Has anyone here ridden a Mini Simmons as a prone board? It would be bigger than most paipos, but certainly less volume than the mega-platter.

A boogie board is a virtual Mini Simmons in some principles. The "Laguna Paipos" and Froseith/Thiez paipos are very similar. If it were a "small paipo" relative to the Mini Simmons foot boards would you call it a Micro Simmons?

I'm intrigued because I'm always looking for boards that function well in typical east coast 1-2' swell. I was thinking that a MS in the 5-6' range might have the extra volume to get in early when paddling with flippers.

Trying to follow Planing (Lindsay Lord) and Simmons principles as to plan shape and dimensions and taking into consideration small and weak East Coast USA surf, I'd chop a foot off of length and make it up by adding a couple of inches in width. And keep with the relatively parallel rails.Atlantasurfer wrote:I'm intrigued because I'm always looking for boards that function well in typical east coast 1-2' swell. In terms of surface area (and other crude assumptions on board curve), 50x23.0 = 1,150
Adding one foot and going narrower
62x21.5 = 1,290, 62x20.0 = 1,240 and 62x18.0 = 1,116

The Gunther Glass twin fin that popped up a couple of years ago is 61 x 22.

Re: Old Paipo board pic
And about ten years ago a friend had a similar Gunther that was thinner. Never got to ride it or measure it. It looks more like a mini Simmons to me, than what some people label a mini Simmons...
