Hydrodynamica: Remember the Future
Anyone planning to go to Hydrodynamica: Remember the Future:
Blurb is:"The Loft 9 Gallery in San Diego is presenting, Hydrodynamica: Remember the Futurean overview of the influence Bob Simmons had and continues to have on modern surfboard development. Curated by Richard Kenvin, we loaned RK our twin keel-finned, Simmons Sandwich model. On view through March 9, 2012".
I was sent some still photos and there is at least one paipo on display (twin finned Froiseth style board).

Damn interesting exhibit. It sure would be nice to get a connection between the foam/glass paipos and what appears to be a wood bellyboard (early in the Loft9gallery blog) and the Simmons/hydrodynamica display and story. I didn't see any explicit narrative on the blog site. Anybody up to doing a freelance interview with some of the particulars at the gallery?

At a different museum...the Mingei, a Carl Ekstrom two part chair was exhibited. Both parts looked very ridable. Keep in mind that it was made in 1970....around the birth of the sponge bellyboard. Here's a link. Scroll down and click on the thumnails of the red chair.

Now I'm tempted to make a plywood chair that can be ridden....the piece without the big slot.

Speaking of designs that resemble paipo. I came across this Hawaiian feather cape which reminded me of a HPD.
It reportedly was given to James Cook, the English navigator.

Paipo surfer in repose,
Nose on the nose,
No grunting he-man pose.
See how fast he goes!
What is it he knows?

Just an innocent question... are these just "art girls" or is this the short is better movement trend for surfer girls in San Diego?

Looks like your basic "dressed up" hipster artist surfer girl/friend these days.
Works for me.

The hipsters were riding paipos before there was even such a thing as a paipo.
