its all been done before, on the bottom of stand up boards,on the bottoms and rails of bodyboards, never seems to stick as a functional design :?

The science is there. Sometimes we surfers are very slow to innovate and adopt. And not all of us have tons of money to experiment. Personally, the dimples would probably not affect my "performance riding" one iota, not even a half iota. A dimpled paipo bottom would likely be more promising. Who can set up some tests at Carderock's David Taylor Model Basin?
