Re: Fin Advice
Nels, it is more complicated... we are on a surf trip in two weeks
Atlanta... what fin configuration were you using in Jax Bch?

Hey Rod...it isn't more complicated for ME! But we've known each other for a long time so let's amend to
"Atlantasurfer and friends" and keep the thousand waves. It's always better when you share with friends anyway.

AtlantaPunkBoy will get his "fair" share. Interesting character to spend surf tripping time with along with FireBoy. Still waiting to hear about the fin setup he went with down in the Jax waves. He may be rocking out at some 3-day punk music festival in Colorado right now

Re: Fin Advice
I'm packing for this punk fest in Vegas. Flying on friday
https://www.punkrockbowling.com
Last weekend i was using a medium (4.5") FCS as a center fin with the Turbo Tunnel side bites. It worked fine with the small waves, but I was definitely outgunned once it hit chest high and choppy. I had the fins with me to run it as a twin, but my family were stressing me out. I didn't feel like I had enough time to kick back and experiment. i don't want to complain too much--having a family that wants your attention is an okay problem to have.
Nels, I do plan on getting a thousand waves, but Rod "Wavecount" Rodgers will get ten thousand in that same period! I've only been surfing bigger waves about three years (and then only occasionally), so I have a long way to go.

Re: Fin Advice
"Wavecount Rodgers?" LOL. I only count the ones I catch at the Outer Wash since they are so few and far between at this stage of my life. The Outer Wash is a wave that breaks far out... 20+ minute paddle to get out there and starts breaking at 8 ft. That is "big" for me these days.

Re: Fin Advice
Is that for Jacksonville or Costa Rica?
For plywood paipo, also consider wakeboard fins. Some are like small surfboard fins and attach via metal bolt the could be counter sunk on the top.

Since Atlanta is bringing the board with his asymmetrical FCS plugs already installed he can try out a few of my small fins sidebites.PhillyViking wrote:Is that for Jacksonville or Costa Rica?

Re: Fin Advice
Hey What's up Philly!
Yes, I am taking this beast with me to CR. As you probably remember, I usually make about one wave out of the ten I try for when I'm surfing down there. The idea of the Frankenboogie was to get more board under me and maybe catch a few more. Of course, this all remains to be seen. it worked pretty well down in Florida, so I have fingers and toes crossed.
I'll look into wakeboard fins--thanks.
